PROTON has officially launched the Proton e.MAS 5, a landmark model that brings electric mobility truly to the masses. Priced from RM59,800 for the Prime and RM72,800 for the Premium variant, the e.MAS 5 becomes Malaysia’s first affordable all-electric vehicle (EV) — designed to make sustainable driving practical, stylish, and within reach for all.
With over 5,000 bookings secured since the order books opened on 4 October 2025, the compact EV is already proving that the Malaysian public is ready to plug into the future.
Building on Proven Momentum
The e.MAS 5 follows the success of the Proton e.MAS 7, which has led Malaysia’s EV segment for nine consecutive months, capturing a 24% share of the national EV market with 6,655 units sold as of September 2025.

Everyday EV, Extraordinary Value
Positioned as a B-segment hatchback with C-segment spaciousness, the Proton e.MAS 5 is tailored for urban commuters and small families seeking a balance between affordability, range, and comfort.
Underneath its sleek, aerodynamic silhouette lies a CATL lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery. In the base Prime variant, it is a 30.12kWh LFP battery pack supplying power to a rear axle-mounted electric motor with 58kW and 130Nm. Meanwhile, the Premium variant has a higher output of 85kW and 150Nm of torque, from a larger 40.16 kWh LFP battery pack. The setup allows brisk city performance, with 0–50 km/h acceleration in just 3.9 seconds (4.4 seconds for Prime) which is typically all you need for traffic light dashes).
The e.MAS 5 offers a WLTP-rated range of up to 225km and 325km respectively, ideal for daily commutes and weekend drives. Charging is quite practical — DC fast charging brings the battery from 30% to 80% in just 21 minutes (Prime supports 53kW DC while Premium is 71kW DC), while standard AC charging (6.6kW) supports convenient overnight top-ups – 4.3 hours for Prime and 5.9 hours for Premium (10% – 100%). Additionally, the eMas 5 also has vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality for powering external electronic devices.

Compact yet confident, the e.MAS 5 measures:

Inside, the minimalist, lounge-inspired cabin offers 375L of boot space (expandable to 1,320L with seats folded), a 70L front trunk (frunk), and 32 interior storage compartments — proof that practicality didn’t take a back seat.
Colour options include Moonstone White, Graphite Silver, and Slate Grey, while the Premium variant adds Marble Cream and Quartz Rose with a sophisticated Alabaster White interior.
Tech Meets Comfort
The cabin features a 14.6-inch Full HD central display paired with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, powered by ATLAS Auto — PROTON’s advanced infotainment and voice assistant platform that understands both English and Bahasa Melayu commands.
Connectivity includes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while the Proton e.MAS App enables remote access to battery status, air-conditioning control, and vehicle data.
Safety First
The e.MAS 5 incorporates 12 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including:
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
- Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
- Blind Spot Detection (BSD)
The Prime variant settles for a simpler suite with blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rear collision warning and a door opening warning. But both come with six airbags.
Its Star Armor Cage Structure ensures rigidity, while the CATL LFP battery features a 3+2 layered protection system for superior thermal management and long-term safety.
Ride, Handling & Efficiency
Rear-wheel drive and PRO-NET’s Global Traction Control System (G-TCS) give the e.MAS 5 confident road manners and a balanced ride. A 4.95m turning radius — one of the best in its class — makes it perfectly suited to tight urban parking and everyday city navigation.
