ALEPS Ekiden to Run Night Relay Event at Sepang During 2026 SUPER GT Malaysia

The Malaysian round of the AUTOBACS SUPER GT Series will host a Japanese-style night relay run as part of the SUPER GT Malaysia Festival on 20 June 2026, with runners taking to the same Sepang International Circuit asphalt used by GT500 and GT300 race cars.
What’s Happening
Organised by the Alumni Look East Policy Society (ALEPS) and promoted locally by HARO Sports & Entertainment, the ALEPS Ekiden brings Japan’s traditional long-distance relay format to Malaysia in a unique motorsport setting. The 2026 edition marks the event’s third appearance here and will be staged as an evening run under the Sepang floodlights.
Format and Key Details
- Teams consist of four runners
- Each runner completes one full lap of the circuit (5.543 km)
- A traditional tasuki (relay sash) is passed from one teammate to the next
- Takes place on 20 June 2026 during the SUPER GT race weekend
Running at night on an active Formula 1-grade circuit is expected to be a major draw, adding a lifestyle and cultural dimension to an already packed race weekend.

More Than Just Motorsport
The Ekiden is positioned as a cultural and community element within the broader festival atmosphere of SUPER GT Malaysia. Beyond the on-track racing, the weekend typically includes automotive showcases, support races, concerts, and themed festival zones — with the Ekiden adding a strong Japanese sporting tradition into the mix.
Official Statement
“Ekiden’s emphasis on teamwork and precision is a direct reflection of the professional standards seen within the motorsports pit lanes. Through this collaboration and the esteemed support of the Embassy of Japan, this event envisions an all-encompassing lifestyle festival that seamlessly blends competitive running and elite racing,” said Managing Partner of HARO Sports & Entertainment Fahrizal Hasan.

Bigger Picture
SUPER GT Malaysia Festival 2026 also coincides with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, with organisers aiming to broaden the event’s appeal beyond motorsport fans to include lifestyle, culture and sports communities.
