DENZA Builds Momentum In Malaysia, Z9GT Flagship Showcases Next-Gen EV Tech

DENZA, the premium luxury marque under BYD, is stepping up its global push with a new brand campaign featuring Daniel Craig—a move that also signals growing momentum for the brand’s expansion in Malaysia ahead of the highly anticipated Z9GT.

Beyond branding, the bigger story now is technology. The upcoming DENZA Z9GT isn’t just positioned as a flagship—it’s shaping up to be one of the most technically ambitious models the brand has introduced so far.

Z9GT: Flagship Tech, With Charging Breakthrough Under Watch

At the global level, DENZA introduced its latest FLASH Charging system alongside the Z9GT—designed to significantly reduce EV charging times.

The system combines ultra-high charging capability (up to 1,500kW on compatible infrastructure) with a second-generation Blade Battery, retaining lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry while improving energy density, thermal efficiency, and charging performance across a wider temperature range.

In markets where it is deployed, the system enables:

  • “Ready in 5” – 10% to 70% in 5 minutes
  • “Full in 9” – 10% to 97% in 9 minutes
  • “Cold Add 3” – 20% to 97% in 12 minutes even at -30°C

However, it is important to note that FLASH Charging has not been confirmed for the Malaysian market at this stage. Its introduction locally will likely depend on infrastructure readiness and BYD’s rollout strategy beyond China and Europe.

e3 Platform: Where The Real Engineering Story Lies

The Z9GT is underpinned by DENZA’s dedicated e3 Platform, developed specifically for the brand as a full-stack hardware and software architecture.

This platform integrates four core technologies:

  • Three-motor independent drive
  • Rear-wheel dual-motor independent steering
  • Vehicle Motion Control system
  • Cell-to-Body (CTB) battery integration

Together, these systems unlock capabilities that go beyond typical premium EV benchmarks. DENZA claims the Z9GT can achieve a turning circle comparable to a compact European city car despite its E-segment footprint, alongside crab-walking functionality for tight urban manoeuvres.

More importantly, the platform enables faster response times between driver input and vehicle behaviour—enhancing both agility and safety. It’s a clear attempt to differentiate not just on power or range, but on how the car actually moves and feels on the road.

Big Battery, Big Performance

The Z9GT’s hardware supports its flagship positioning:

  • 122kWh Blade Battery
  • Up to 800km range (RWD variant, claimed)
  • Triple-motor setup with over 960PS
  • 0–100 km/h in under 3 seconds

In addition to the full-electric version, DENZA is also introducing a Super DM hybrid configuration, broadening the model’s appeal across different markets and usage needs.

Built as a shooting brake grand tourer, the Z9GT combines performance-focused proportions with a more distinctive alternative to traditional SUVs in the premium space.

Cabin Tech: Premium Experience Focus

Inside, DENZA is pushing a more experience-led approach. The Z9GT features a high-end audio system developed with Devialet, paired with Dolby Atmos immersive sound.

The result is a cabin designed not just for driving, but for entertainment—another signal that DENZA is targeting lifestyle-oriented premium buyers where experience matters as much as performance.

Premium EV Space Heats Up In Malaysia

For Malaysia, the Z9GT represents more than just another EV launch. It signals DENZA’s intent to compete at the higher end of the market, where expectations go beyond range and pricing into brand identity, user experience, and real-world usability.

The FLASH Charging system is a key talking point globally—but locally, the bigger question is timing. Even if the technology eventually arrives, it will need to align with Malaysia’s high-power charging infrastructure, which is still evolving.

More Details To Follow

BYD Malaysia has confirmed that further details on the Z9GT, including local specifications, pricing, and launch timing, will be announced in due course.

CarTok Editor’s Note

It’s easy to focus on the 5-minute charging headline—but for Malaysia, that’s still a “wait and see” story.

The e3 Platform, on the other hand, is immediate. Steering, control, manoeuvrability—these are things owners will experience every day, regardless of charging infrastructure.

If DENZA gets that right, the Z9GT could stand out even before its most headline-grabbing tech officially arrives.
