2026 Toyota Corolla Cross HEV GR Sport Sharpens Styling, Keeps Proven Hybrid Formula

UMW Toyota Motor has introduced the updated 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross HEV GR Sport in Malaysia, bringing sportier exterior detailing, a more tech-forward cabin and subtle chassis revisions while retaining its established hybrid powertrain and pricing structure.
The update is aimed at buyers seeking a visually more dynamic compact SUV without sacrificing fuel efficiency, safety or everyday usability.
GR-inspired Exterior Updates
The Corolla Cross HEV GR Sport receives a refreshed “GR-inspired” exterior treatment led by a honeycomb mesh front grille and 18-inch GR Sport alloy wheels featuring an aerodynamic fan-blade design. A contrasting two-tone black roof is now standard, paired with black side mirrors and a rear spoiler.
At the rear, the SUV gains a revised lower bumper garnish with an integrated air diffuser, reinforcing the GR Sport visual identity. The overall update focuses on a sharper, more assertive road presence while maintaining the familiar Corolla Cross silhouette.

Interior and Technology Upgrades
Inside, the cabin adopts a black sport-themed layout accented with red stitching across the steering wheel, gear lever boot and seats. The leather seats feature GR-embroidered headrests, while red seatbelts further distinguish the GR Sport variant.
Technology upgrades include a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch display audio system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Practical enhancements include a power tailgate with kick sensor and rear seats with a six-degree recline angle, aimed at improving comfort and daily usability.

Hybrid Powertrain and Chassis Tuning
The 2026 Corolla Cross HEV GR Sport continues to use Toyota’s 4th Generation Hybrid Electric System, pairing a 1.8-litre DOHC petrol engine with an electric motor. The system is engineered for efficiency-focused performance, with CO₂ emissions rated at 98 g/km. The engine produces 98PS (72kW) and 142Nm of torque while the motor generator provides 52kW and 163Nm.
To support the GR Sport positioning, Toyota has introduced chassis and steering enhancements. These include a Sport-tuned Electric Power Steering system with a dedicated Sport ECU, additional body bracing and a stiffer suspension setup. The changes are intended to improve steering response and handling stability without compromising ride comfort for daily driving.

Safety and Ownership
Safety remains comprehensive, with Toyota Safety Sense fitted as standard. The suite includes Pre-Collision System (PCS), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) and Lane Tracing Assist (LTA). The Corolla Cross HEV GR Sport retains its five-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.
The model is backed by Toyota’s five-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, alongside eight years unlimited mileage dedicated hybrid system coverage for key components. An extended warranty option for another 2 years is also available.
Market Positioning
The Corolla Cross HEV GR Sport continues to serve as Toyota’s sport-styled hybrid SUV offering in Malaysia, positioned for urban drivers who want lower fuel consumption and dependable ownership wrapped in a more expressive design package.
CarTok Editor’s Note
The GR Sport treatment doesn’t turn the Corolla Cross into a performance SUV — and it doesn’t need to. This update is about visual edge and marginally sharper road manners layered onto a hybrid setup that prioritises efficiency and reliability. For many buyers, that balance may be exactly the point.
