Chery Malaysia has announced that the Chery TIGGO 7 PHEV has secured a 5-Star ASEAN NCAP safety rating, achieving an overall score of 94.68 points under the ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 assessment protocol.
The result places the TIGGO 7 PHEV well above the industry benchmark, reinforcing its position as one of the strongest safety performers in the plug-in hybrid SUV segment currently available in Malaysia.

ASEAN NCAP Score Breakdown
The TIGGO 7 PHEV was evaluated across four key safety assessment categories, with the following results:
- Adult Occupant Protection (AOP): 40.00 points (full score)
- Child Occupant Protection (COP): 17.18 points

- Motorcycle Assist (MS): 17.50 points
Notably, the TIGGO 7 PHEV achieved a perfect score in the Adult Occupant Protection category, reflecting strong structural integrity and effective restraint systems during crash testing.

Comprehensive Standard Safety Equipment
Chery has equipped the TIGGO 7 PHEV with an extensive list of safety and driver assistance systems as standard across all variants. Key features include:
- Eight airbags
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
- Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) for front and rear occupants
- Rear seat occupant detection
- Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) City
- AEB Inter-Urban
- Blind Spot Detection (BSD) for both driver and passenger sides
- Adaptive High Beam (AHB)
- Parking Pilot (PP)
- ISOFIX child seat anchors
- Child Presence Detection (CPD)
In addition, all variants are fitted with:
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
- Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)

These systems contributed significantly to the model’s strong scores in the Safety Assist and Motorcycle Assist categories.

Focus on Child Safety Technology
One standout feature highlighted in the assessment is Child Presence Detection (CPD). The system alerts the driver to check the rear seats if the rear doors were opened before the journey began, helping reduce the risk of children being left unattended inside the vehicle.
This technology aligns with ASEAN NCAP’s increasing emphasis on real-world safety scenarios beyond conventional crash protection.

Chery Malaysia’s Commitment to Safety
Commenting on the achievement, Lee Wen Hsiang, Vice President of Chery Malaysia, said:
“For today’s drivers, nothing matters more than safety and reliability, and the TIGGO 7 PHEV delivers both at an exceptional level,
This ASEAN NCAP recognition reinforces our dedication to introducing vehicles that combine innovation, best in technology, practicality, and world-class protection.”
Chery Automobile stated that safety has evolved from a technical requirement into a core brand philosophy, with its latest Electric Vehicle (EV) and New Energy Vehicle (NEV) developments focusing on integrating high-performance capability with advanced occupant protection and intelligent safety systems.
About the ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 Protocol
Under the current ASEAN NCAP assessment framework, vehicles are evaluated across four domains:
- Adult Occupant Protection (AOP): up to 40.00 points
- Child Occupant Protection (COP): up to 20.00 points
- Safety Assist (SA): up to 20.00 points
- Motorcycle Assist (MS): up to 20.00 points
The TIGGO 7 PHEV’s results reflect strong performance across all four areas, particularly in adult occupant protection and active safety technologies.
CarTok Editor’s Note:
Safety ratings may not grab headlines like horsepower or price, but a 94.68-point ASEAN NCAP score is clear indication that the TIGGO 7 PHEV prioritises safety and protection just as much as electrified performance.
