Chery Malaysia Confirms Four New Models for 2026 After Crossing 30,000 Sales Milestone

Chery Malaysia has outlined its 2026 plans, confirming four new model launches as the brand surpassed the 30,000-unit cumulative sales mark since its return to the local market in July 2023.

The announcement signals a shift from re-establishing its presence to expanding its portfolio across more segments, with greater emphasis on larger, more premium and electrified offerings.

In the 2025 calendar year alone, Chery recorded 12,530 units sold, bringing total deliveries to 30,073 vehicles. Beyond volume growth, the brand is also seeing a clear change in customer preferences.

From Omoda Volume to Tiggo Premium

During its early comeback phase, Chery’s growth was largely driven by the Omoda range, particularly the Omoda 5, which accounted for 84% of sales in 2023. By 2025, the balance had shifted significantly.

The Tiggo series now leads, representing 66% of total sales. This indicates more Malaysian buyers are moving toward larger and more premium SUVs within the Chery line-up, in line with the brand’s broader repositioning toward higher segments with stronger feature lists and perceived value.

Hybrids Set for Bigger Share

Electrification is becoming a bigger pillar of Chery’s strategy. Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) models made up 21% of total sales in 2025, and the company is targeting a 30% hybrid contribution in 2026.

Rather than focusing purely on full battery-electric vehicles, Chery is placing stronger emphasis on hybrid and plug-in hybrid solutions that balance efficiency with long-distance usability — a formula that continues to resonate with many Malaysian buyers.

By mid-2025, this momentum helped Chery climb to third place among non-national automakers in Malaysia, underlining how quickly the brand has strengthened its position.

Four New Models Confirmed for 2026

Following the recent launch of the Tiggo 8 1.6, Chery has outlined four additional model introductions through 2026.

Q2 2026 – Tiggo 9 Flagship SUV

Leading the expansion is the Tiggo 9, positioned as a flagship SUV under the theme “Redefining Flagship Luxury”.

It is expected to feature a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 254 PS and 390 Nm. A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant would also be in line with Chery’s CSH strategy. The dual-motor hybrid version is rated at up to 381 PS and 610 Nm, which would make it one of the most powerful Chery models offered locally.

Q3 2026 – Performance and Lifestyle Offerings

Two new models are planned for the third quarter.

One is described as a performance-oriented model promising improved performance and versatility, likely aimed at buyers who want stronger drivability without stepping into traditional premium-brand territory.

The other is positioned as a youth-focused lifestyle model, pitched as a more expressive, design-led evolution of the modern compact SUV for younger urban customers. With Chery already offering the Tiggo Cross Turbo and CSH Hybrid variants locally, this new model could potentially be the “Cyber-Mecha”-styled Omoda 4 (or Cross) previewed in late 2025.

Q4 2026 – Next-Generation Chery Super Hybrid

The year will conclude with a refreshed CSH model featuring Chery’s latest-generation hybrid powertrain system. While detailed specifications have yet to be released, the update is expected to deliver improvements in efficiency, refinement and electric driving capability.

Expanding Network and Local Production

Chery’s growth plans extend beyond products. Its current footprint in Malaysia includes:

  • 59 sales outlets
  • 54 aftersales centres
  • 25 Body & Paint facilities

Beginning in 2026, the company will roll out its new “Gen 4” showroom design, replacing existing Gen 3 facilities with a more premium and technology-focused retail environment. The priority for the company is to improve returns for its dealers and customer experience at existing outlets rather than simply increasing outlet numbers.

On the manufacturing side, the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park in Lembah Beringin, Selangor — construction of which began in early 2025 — is expected to be completed in 2026. The facility is designed with an annual production capacity of 100,000 units, reinforcing Chery’s long-term commitment to local assembly.

CarTok Editor’s Note:

Chery’s comeback proved it could win attention with value. Its 2026 playbook shows it now wants to compete on breadth, technology and a more premium badge presence. With multiple Chery Group brands already operating in different segments — and more on the way — how clearly defined each brand’s positioning is will be just as important as the products themselves.
