GWM Malaysia Puts Hybrid Intelligence in the Spotlight at GATE 2025 — Hi4 Tech in Upcoming WEY G9 Showcased

GWM Malaysia took centrestage at this year’s GATE (Global Automotive and Technology) Expo 2025 in Kuala Lumpur as it showcased its leadership in intelligent hybrid technology while previewing what may be one of Malaysia’s most anticipated MPVs of 2026 — the GWM WEY G9 which will debut locally with the brand’s latest Hi4 Intelligent Hybrid 4WD system.

The event is also significant as it marks GWM’s third year in Malaysia, signalling a strengthened commitment to sustainable mobility, local industry collaboration, and next-generation electrified innovations.

Building Malaysia’s Smart Mobility Ecosystem

As part of its long-term localisation strategy, GWM Malaysia is actively collaborating with local vendors to enhance domestic industry participation. The brand has begun localising components such as seat modules, wiring harnesses, sub-frames, door trims and batteries. Moving forward, localisation will expand to exhaust systems, carpets and suspension assemblies.

These efforts reinforce GWM’s aim to build a resilient supply chain while supporting Malaysia’s ambition to become a regional hub for intelligent new energy vehicles (NEVs).

Hi4 Hybrid Intelligent 4WD — Highlight of GATE 2025

The centrepiece of GWM’s presence at GATE 2025 is the revolutionary Hi4 (Hybrid Intelligent 4-Wheel Drive) system — a next-generation hybrid technology designed for intelligent power distribution, strong performance and high efficiency.

Developed through GWM’s global R&D network, Hi4 features:

  • Dual-motor hybrid drive
  • Adaptive 4WD capability
  • Smart energy allocation
  • Efficient operation in mixed driving environments

The Hi4 system is engineered to deliver the performance of 4WD with the efficiency of 2WD.

GWM Malaysia Managing Director Cui Anqi said, “Hi4 represents the next step in hybrid innovation. It is technology that makes powerful driving intelligent and efficiency effortless.”

The system has been tested in extreme global environments and optimised specifically for Malaysia’s climate, road conditions and driving habits.

WEY G9 — The First GWM Model in Malaysia Powered by Hi4

Arriving in early 2026, the GWM WEY G9 will introduce the Hi4 hybrid 4WD system to Malaysian customers for the first time. As a luxury MPV built under the concept “First-Class for All,” the G9 combines premium comfort, cutting-edge hybrid technology and family-ready practicality.

Roslan Abdullah, Chief Operating Officer of GWM Malaysia, said “The GWM WEY G9 will redefine what premium hybrid mobility means for Malaysian families. It brings together the best of luxury and technology in a practical, reliable way designed for our roads.”

Global Success Story: Over 10,000 Units Sold in October 2025

The WEY G9 has already achieved strong global momentum, surpassing 10,000 units sold in China in October 2025 alone. This impressive milestone positions it as a strong contender across petrol, hybrid, and EV MPV segments.

According to Cui Anqi, “The G9’s success in China is a testament to GWM’s technological leadership and our ability to deliver real value to customers globally.”

This global performance sets high expectations for its upcoming Malaysian arrival.

Towards a Smarter, More Connected Mobility Future

With Hi4 technology making its Malaysian debut and the WEY G9 on the horizon, GWM Malaysia is gearing up to usher in a new era of intelligent, electrified mobility — one where advanced technology and user experience are deeply integrated.

COO Roslan Abdullah concluded, “As we expand our dealer network and introduce new technologies, we want every Malaysian to experience a brand that cares, innovates, and delivers lasting value.”

It certainly looks like hybrids are trending again.
