Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has officially launched the all-new Volkswagen Tayron, introducing a new locally assembled seven-seat SUV positioned between the Tiguan Allspace and Touareg.
Assembled at Volkswagen’s plant in Pekan, Pahang, the Tayron makes its Malaysian debut in two variants. The Elegance is now available at RM189,890 (on-the-road, without insurance), while the more performance-oriented R-Line has been introduced and is now open for booking ahead of its official launch, with pricing to be announced later (estimated between RM259k – RM269k).
Designed to cater to growing families and customers seeking greater practicality, the VW Tayron combines a flexible seven-seat layout with Volkswagen’s latest powertrain, connectivity and driver assistance technologies.

Mild-Hybrid Or Turbocharged Power
The Tayron Elegance is powered by a 1.5-litre eTSI mild-hybrid petrol engine producing 150PS and 250Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission.
The 48-volt mild-hybrid system incorporates a belt-driven starter-generator and Active Cylinder Management (ACTplus), which deactivates two of the engine’s four cylinders under light loads to improve fuel efficiency. Energy recovered during braking also enables engine-off coasting in suitable driving conditions.

The Tayron R-Line, meanwhile, is equipped with a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine delivering 265PS and 400Nm of torque. It also features Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system for improved traction and handling.
Both variants are fitted with Dynamic Chassis Control Pro (DCC Pro), which continuously adjusts the suspension according to road conditions for a balance of ride comfort and handling.

Modern Volkswagen Styling
The Tayron adopts Volkswagen’s latest SUV design language, featuring a tall front fascia, sculpted bonnet and distinctive LED lighting signatures.

The Elegance comes with LED Plus headlights and 3D LED taillights, while the R-Line upgrades to IQ.LIGHT HD Matrix LED headlights with glare-free high beam technology, dynamic rear turn signals and sportier exterior styling elements.
Both variants feature illuminated Volkswagen logos at the front and rear.
Customers can choose from five exterior colours – Nightshade Blue, Oyster Silver, Dolphin Grey, Oryx White, Grenadilla Black.

Spacious Seven-Seat Interior
Inside, the Tayron offers three rows of seating with a flexible cabin designed for family use.
The second-row seats feature a 40:20:40 split, while the third row folds in a 50:50 configuration. Folding both rear rows expands luggage capacity to 1,905 litres.
Both variants receive Varenna leather ergoActive Plus front seats with:
- 12-way electric adjustment (with memory setting)
- Convenient Entry function
- Heating
- Ventilation
- 10-air-cushion massage function
The Elegance is equipped with an eight-speaker audio system, while the R-Line upgrades to a Harman Kardon premium audio system comprising 10+1 speakers, a subwoofer, 700-watt amplifier and 16-channel digital amplifier.

Larger Displays And Improved Connectivity
The Tayron introduces Volkswagen’s latest digital cockpit technology.
The Elegance features a 12.9-inch Discover infotainment touchscreen, while the R-Line receives a larger 15-inch Discover Pro Max display.

Both systems run Volkswagen’s latest MIB4 software and support Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Standard equipment also includes:
- 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro
- IDA voice assistant
- Multifunction sports steering wheel with paddle shifters
- Steering-column-mounted gear selector
- Centre Console Multi-Function rotary controller

The R-Line variant gains a head-up display.
Five-Star Euro NCAP Safety
Safety is a major focus, with the Tayron earning a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
Both variants come equipped with Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE driver assistance suite, including:
- Travel Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control
- Lane Assist
- Lane Change System Side Assist
- Rear Traffic Alert with Exit Warning
- Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring
- Park Assist Plus
- Emergency Assist
- Proactive Passenger Protection System
- Driver Attention Monitor
The Tayron is also fitted with nine airbags, including a front-centre airbag positioned between the driver and front passenger.

Volkswagen Assurance Package
Customers can purchase the optional Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP) for RM10,100.
The package includes:
- Five years scheduled maintenance
- Five years manufacturer’s warranty
- Five years roadside assistance
Warranty coverage consists of two years of unlimited mileage, followed by three years or 150,000km, whichever comes first. Vehicles purchased without the VAP receive a standard two-year manufacturer’s warranty.
The Tayron also benefits from 15,000km service intervals, reducing the frequency of scheduled maintenance visits.
To mark Malaysia’s upcoming 69th Merdeka celebrations, the first 69 Tayron owners will receive an exclusive ownership package comprising seven years of free maintenance, complimentary personal accident and car key coverage, plus a chance to win a three-day, two-night luxury holiday.
The Tayron Elegance is now available at Volkswagen dealerships nationwide, while bookings for the Tayron R-Line are open ahead of its official launch.
CarTok Editor’s Note
Rather than replacing the Tiguan Allspace, the Tayron expands Volkswagen’s SUV lineup by offering buyers another seven-seat option with a more premium positioning. With mild-hybrid technology, an upscale cabin and a stronger emphasis on comfort and digital features, it gives Volkswagen broader coverage in Malaysia’s competitive family SUV segment. The optional Volkswagen Assurance Package adds value for long-term ownership, although some buyers may question why similar coverage isn’t included as standard at this price point.
