OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia has officially launched the JAECOO J5 EV, marking the brand’s first fully electric model in Malaysia. The locally assembled (CKD) electric SUV is priced at RM118,800 on-the-road without insurance.
The final price is lower than the RM125,000 estimated price announced when bookings opened in July.
The J5 EV is offered in a single variant and is positioned as a B-segment electric SUV, with its combination of performance, charging capability and lifestyle-oriented features putting it into competition with other mainstream EVs in Malaysia.
155kW Motor, 461km NEDC Range
The J5 EV uses a front-mounted electric motor driving the front wheels, producing 155kW (211PS) and 288Nm.
It can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 7.7 seconds, with a top speed of 175km/h.
Power comes from a 58.9kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. For Malaysia, the official WLTP-rated range is 402km. The vehicle’s technical specifications also quote a 461km NEDC range.
The battery supports up to 11kW AC charging, with a 10-100% charge taking around seven hours. DC fast charging is supported at up to 130kW, allowing the battery to go from 30% to 80% in approximately 28 minutes.
The J5 EV also supports 3.3kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), allowing the vehicle to supply power to external electrical equipment.
Compact Dimensions, Useful Storage
The J5 EV measures 4,380mm long, 1,860mm wide and 1,650mm tall, with a 2,620mm wheelbase.
Ground clearance is 174mm, while the SUV offers a 35-litre front trunk and a 480-litre rear boot. With the rear seats folded, total boot capacity increases to 1,284 litres.
The EV-specific exterior design replaces the petrol J5’s conventional grille with a more closed-off front end, while an active grille shutter helps manage airflow and efficiency.
Standard equipment includes 18-inch two-tone aerodynamic alloy wheels with 235/55 R18 tyres.
Well-Equipped Cabin
Inside, the J5 EV gets an 8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch 2K central touchscreen, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The vehicle also retains some of the more unusual features introduced with the J5, including Pet Mode, Camping Mode and an in-car karaoke function.
Camping Mode can provide up to 3.3kW of electrical power through the vehicle’s V2L system, giving owners the ability to run equipment such as lights or a kettle while away from home.
19 ADAS functions and 540-degree camera
Safety equipment includes six airbags, front and rear parking sensors and a 540-degree HD panoramic camera system.
The J5 EV is equipped with a Level 2+ ADAS package comprising 19 functions, including Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Prevention, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist and Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control.
The system also includes Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Braking, Traffic Jam Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, Door Opening Warning, Rear Collision Warning and Emergency Lane Keeping Assist.
The chassis uses independent rear suspension, while three levels of regenerative braking are available.
CKD Production And Launch Package
The JAECOO J5 EV is locally assembled (CKD) at Chery Corporate Malaysia’s plant in Shah Alam, making it part of the growing number of locally assembled EVs available in Malaysia.
It is available in three exterior colours: Alpine Green, Fjord Grey and Carbon Crystal Black.
The vehicle comes with a seven-year/150,000km vehicle warranty, while the high-voltage battery is covered for 10 years/200,000km.
For the first 1,000 customers, JAECOO Malaysia is offering a launch package that includes one year of unlimited JomCharge charging, one year of insurance, a 7kW home wallbox, a V2L connector and a J5 EV lifestyle accessory package. The package is worth up to RM10,000, excluding the value of the unlimited charging benefit.
