JAECOO J5 EV Makes Malaysian Public Debut At Oh My Meow! Expo Ahead Of Official Launch
Malaysians can now get their first up-close look at the all-new JAECOO J5 EV as the electric SUV makes its public debut at the Oh My Meow! Expo 2026 ahead of its official Malaysian launch.
Rather than unveil the J5 EV at a conventional motor show, OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia chose the pet-themed lifestyle event to showcase its first battery-electric vehicle (BEV) for the local market, highlighting the model’s family- and pet-friendly design philosophy.
While pricing and the official launch date have yet to be announced, the J5 EV’s appearance suggests its Malaysian introduction is drawing closer.
Designed For Families, Urban Drivers And Pet Owners
According to OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia Head Chris Tan, the J5 EV marks an important milestone in the brand’s local electrification journey by combining smarter and more sustainable mobility with the comfort, versatility and adventurous character associated with the JAECOO brand.
The electric SUV is aimed at young families, urban commuters and pet owners, with several features designed to improve everyday practicality and cabin comfort.
Among its pet-friendly highlights are low-VOC leatherette upholstery with antibacterial and scratch-resistant properties, as well as a dedicated Pet Mode that maintains a comfortable cabin temperature while the owner is away from the vehicle.
Up To 402km WLTP Driving Range
Power comes from a front-mounted electric motor producing 155kW and 288Nm of torque.
The motor is paired with a 58.9kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, delivering a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 402km.
The battery supports up to 130 kW DC fast charging, allowing the state of charge to increase from 30% to 80% in just 28 minutes. AC charging is rated at 11kW. The J5 EV also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, enabling owners to power external electrical devices directly from the vehicle.
Technology And Practicality
Technology highlights include:
- Active Grille Shutter for improved aerodynamic efficiency
- Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with 19 safety functions
- 540-degree HD surround-view camera
- 13.2-inch 2K central infotainment touchscreen
Inside, the SUV features a 1.45-square-metre panoramic glass roof, double-glazed front side windows, rear multi-link suspension and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Practicality is another key focus, with a 35-litre front trunk, 480-litre rear luggage compartment and 35 storage spaces distributed throughout the cabin.
On Display This Weekend
Visitors can view the JAECOO J5 EV throughout the Oh My Meow! Expo 2026, taking place from 9 to 12 July at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, Kuala Lumpur.
Besides viewing the SUV before its official launch, visitors can also take part in various pet-friendly activities organised during the event.
OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia has yet to announce local pricing but the J5 EV launch is expected within the next couple of months.
