Proton S70 i-GT 1.5 Surpasses 2,000 Bookings In East Malaysia

The 2026 Proton S70 i-GT 1.5 has secured more than 2,000 bookings in Sabah and Sarawak since bookings opened on 7 September, with Sarawak contributing over 1,000 units.
This comes as PROTON showcased the sedan at a three-day roadshow at Vivacity Megamall in Kuching last weekend, following its introduction in Sabah on 3 October and launch in Peninsular Malaysia on 22 September.
Priced from RM58,800 in East Malaysia, the S70 i-GT 1.5 is available in Lite and Prime variants. It uses a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre i-GT engine paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and torque converter.
The model expands the S70 range with a non-turbo powertrain, targeting buyers seeking a spacious sedan with everyday comfort and convenience features at a more accessible price point.

Proton Strengthens Its Sarawak Presence
According to PROTON, its annual sales in Sarawak had increased from 4,270 units in 2018 to 9,870 units in 2026, representing growth of 131%.
To support its expanding customer base, the company has 16 authorised service centres in Sarawak, backed by a Regional Parts Centre in Kuching. The facilities provide maintenance and repair services, with access to genuine Proton parts.
“The response to the 2026 PROTON S70 i-GT 1.5 across East Malaysia has been very encouraging, with more than 2,000 bookings recorded since bookings opened,” said Dato’ Ir Abdul Rashid Musa, Proton Deputy Chief Executive Officer.
He added that the Sarawak roadshow allows customers to explore the sedan, speak with sales advisors and experience its features and driving performance through test drives.

Safety, Comfort And Connectivity Features
PROTON highlights 10 class-leading features across space and comfort, convenience and connectivity, and safety.
Both variants come with an electric parking brake with Auto Brake Hold, key remote engine start, one-touch power windows with Auto Up/Down and Anti-Trap functions, five USB ports and a reverse camera.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are scheduled to be available from October 2026.
Safety equipment includes a five-function rear side radar system covering Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Door Opening Warning and Rear Collision Warning. A rear seat reminder is also standard.
Proton said the S70 i-GT 1.5 powertrain underwent more than 5,400 hours of dynamometer testing and over 412,000km of road testing as part of its validation programme.
