2026 Proton S70 Updated With 4-cylinder 1.5L Turbo, Wireless CarPlay And RM5,000 Launch Rebate

PROTON recently unveiled the 2026 Proton S70, introducing a 4-cylinder 1.5-litre turbo engine, and updates focused on connectivity, styling refinements and ownership packages.

Since its introduction, the S70 has recorded over 38,000 units sold. The 2026 update builds on the existing formula rather than introducing a major mechanical overhaul.

1.5L Turbo With 7-Speed DCT

The 2026 Proton S70 is updated with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), replacing the 3-cylinder unit.

181 PS
290 Nm of torque
Claimed 0–100 km/h in 7.5 seconds
Claimed fuel consumption of 5.7L/100km

The powertrain is jointly developed with Geely. Proton says calibration updates aim to improve shift smoothness and overall drivability, while maintaining performance and efficiency balance.

Selectable drive modes and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) remain part of the package.

Exterior And Cabin Updates

Exterior revisions are evolutionary rather than dramatic. Updates include:

Revised headlamp design
New 17-inch alloy wheel design
Rear LED tail-light bar with rhythmic lighting
Aerokit (standard on Flagship X)

A new Ruby Red colour joins the existing palette.

Inside, the cabin adopts a black interior theme with illuminated window switches and minor trim refinements. The overall layout remains unchanged, maintaining a driver-focused dashboard with a 12.3-inch central display.

Connectivity Gains Wireless Support

The 12.3-inch Full HD infotainment unit now supports:

Wireless Apple CarPlay
Wireless Android Auto

The system continues to feature “Hi PROTON” voice command for media, navigation and climate controls.

Five USB ports (including Type-C), a wireless charger and onboard data connectivity are offered depending on variant.

For buyers prioritising in-car tech, this is one of the more meaningful updates for 2026.

ADAS Level 2 Safety Features

The S70 continues to offer ADAS Level 2, comprising 13 driver assistance features, including:

Lane Change Assist (LCA)
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC)

The more ‘premium’ ADAS features such as AED and ACC are reserved only for the Flagship and Flagship X variants, as are the 360-degree camera with 3D display and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

The 2026 S70’s real change is the shift to a four-cylinder engine — a move that should address refinement expectations more than outright performance. Beyond that, the updates are incremental.

At under RM70k after rebate for the base variant, the S70 remains competitively priced on paper. The stronger test, as always, will be how consistently the drivetrain and ownership experience deliver over time.
