MINI Malaysia Launches Two Motorsport-Inspired Special Editions, Priced from RM230,888

MINI Malaysia has introduced two exclusive special edition models that celebrate the brand’s rich motorsport heritage: the MINI 1965 Victory Edition and the MINI John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition.

Unveiled on 10 April 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, both models pay tribute to defining moments in MINI’s racing history, blending historic design cues with contemporary performance and technology.

The new editions are aimed squarely at enthusiasts who value MINI’s performance legacy as much as its modern-day driving character.

A Tribute to MINI’s Racing DNA

According to Benjamin Nagel, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, the two special editions are designed to honour some of the brand’s most iconic motorsport milestones.

“MINI’s racing heritage is more than history – it is the foundation of everything that makes MINI special today. The 1965 Monte Carlo Rally victory and the record-breaking MINI GP represent pinnacle moments that proved agility, innovation and pure driving excitement could triumph over convention.”

He added: “These special editions are our way of honouring that legacy while delivering it to customers who want their MINI to tell a story.”

That positioning is important because these are not merely cosmetic packages. Both models are closely tied to specific chapters in MINI’s performance story.

MINI 1965 Victory Edition: Monte Carlo Spirit Goes Electric

The MINI 1965 Victory Edition is based exclusively on the All-Electric MINI John Cooper Works, bringing one of the brand’s most celebrated victories into the EV era.

This edition references the iconic 1965 Monte Carlo Rally win, where Timo Mäkinen’s Mini Cooper S famously secured victory against larger and more powerful rivals.

Visually, the car is immediately distinctive. Finished in Chili Red with a white racing stripe stretching from the bonnet to the rear, it also features the historic number “52” in white graphics on the doors, directly referencing the original rally-winning car.

Further details include:

  • “1965” C-pillar stickers
  • 18-inch JCW Mastery Spoke black wheels
  • floating wheel hubs
  • commemorative door sills
  • custom key cap with the number 52

Inside, the cabin continues the heritage theme with a JCW anthracite and red racing cockpit, along with “1965” lettering on the steering wheel and centre console. Power comes from its electric drivetrain producing 190 kW (258 hp) and 350 Nm of torque.

This makes the Victory Edition more than a visual throwback — it is MINI’s attempt to connect its rally heritage with its electrified future.

JCW GP Inspired Edition: The Fastest MINI Legacy Continues

For buyers who prefer combustion performance, MINI Malaysia has also introduced the MINI John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition.

This special edition is based on the MINI John Cooper Works hatchback, drawing inspiration from the third-generation MINI GP introduced in 2021, which was the fastest road-going MINI ever built.

The model features Racing Grey metallic paintwork and adopts a far more aggressive visual approach.

Exterior highlights include:

  • full JCW Aero Kit
  • JCW rear spoiler
  • front, side and rear winglets
  • GP-inspired bonnet and side decals
  • GP-themed entry sills

The interior receives bespoke touches as well, including unique floor mats, a GP-themed key cap and dedicated wheel hub caps. Under the bonnet sits a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo engine delivering 170 kW (231 hp) and 380 Nm of torque.

For MINI loyalists, this is likely the more purist driver’s car of the two.

For EV buyers, the brand also highlights an 8-year high-voltage battery warranty.

CarTok Editor’s Note

These two editions are all about brand storytelling.

The real strategic move here is how MINI is using its motorsport past to give both its EV and petrol performance models stronger emotional appeal in Malaysia — one looks back to Monte Carlo, the other to track-day bragging rights.

For enthusiasts, that heritage still matters. For MINI, it is a smart way of reminding buyers that performance identity can survive even as the powertrain changes.
