GWM Malaysia has expanded its rugged SUV line-up with the launch of the GWM TANK 300 HEV, priced at RM259,800 on-the-road without insurance in Peninsular Malaysia.
The new hybrid variant brings electrified performance and improved refinement to the TANK 300 platform while retaining the body-on-frame construction and mechanical off-road hardware that helped establish the model’s reputation among SUV enthusiasts globally.
According to GWM Malaysia, the TANK 300 has more than 1,000 owners locally since its Malaysian debut in 2024, and the model has also consistently ranked among China’s top-selling off-road SUVs between 2021 and 2025.
“The introduction of the GWM TANK 300 HEV reflects our commitment to offering Malaysians greater choice. It combines hybrid efficiency and refined comfort while staying true to TANK’s authentic, purpose-built off-road capability,” said Roslan Abdullah, Chief Operating Officer of GWM Malaysia.

Electrified Performance With Serious Torque
Powering the TANK 300 HEV is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 245 PS and 380 Nm, paired with an electric motor contributing an additional 106 PS and 268 Nm.
Combined system output is claimed at 346 PS and 648 Nm, positioning the hybrid SUV as one of the more powerful ladder-frame off-roaders currently available in its segment.
GWM says the hybrid system improves low-speed responsiveness, refinement, and overall efficiency, particularly in urban driving conditions, while still supporting long-distance touring and off-road use.

Still Built Like A Proper Off-Roader
Unlike some SUVs that lean heavily into rugged styling without the mechanical foundation to match, the TANK 300 HEV retains a traditional body-on-frame ladder chassis architecture designed for proper off-road use.
The company claims the structure uses a significant amount of 1500 MPa ultra-high-strength steel, while high-strength steel accounts for 99% of the frame construction. Torsional rigidity is rated at 284.5 kN·m/rad. Torsional rigidity numbers are essentially a measure of how resistant a car is to twisting itself into a slightly worse car every time the road gets rough. In the case of the TANK 300, you would need to hang half a Perodua Axia to the tip of the frame to twist it by 1 degree.

Its off-road hardware package includes:
- Full-time On-Demand 4WD
- 4L low-range gearing
- Multiple terrain modes
- Tank Turn Assist
- Crawl Control
- Hill Descent Control
Terrain settings include Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, Mud, Sand, and 4L modes.
One standout feature is Tank Turn Assist, which reduces turning radius by locking the inner rear wheel during low-speed manoeuvres, particularly useful on narrow trails and technical terrain.
More Premium Cabin Experience
Inside, the TANK 300 HEV adopts a more premium positioning with features including:
- Nappa leather upholstery
- 9-speaker Infinity premium audio system
- Advanced infotainment and connectivity features
- 360-degree camera system
The HEV variant also introduces several smart convenience functions not offered on the standard ICE model.
These include remote vehicle monitoring and control through the GWM mobile app, allowing owners to check tyre status, fuel level, battery status, vehicle location, and remotely operate features such as the air-conditioning, seat ventilation, and sunroof.
Auto Parking Assist is also included, enabling automated parking manoeuvres with minimal driver input.

Full Level 2 ADAS Suite
Safety equipment on the TANK 300 HEV includes a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS package featuring:
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Autonomous Emergency Braking with Junction Assist
- Lane Keep Assist and Lane Centering
- Lane Change Assist
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Braking
Colours, Warranty And Ownership Package
The TANK 300 HEV is available in Crystal Black, Pearl White, and a new HEV-exclusive Sand Beige exterior colour.
Buyers will also receive:
- 5 years free maintenance including labour and parts
- 5 years complimentary L2 telematic services
- Lifetime engine and transmission warranty for first-hand private owners
- 8-year / 180,000 km battery warranty
- 6-year unlimited mileage vehicle and HEV system warranty
Existing GWM owners are also eligible for an additional RM3,000 loyalty rebate.

CarTok Editor’s Note
The TANK 300 HEV arrives at a particularly relevant time for the Malaysian market as fuel subsidy rationalisation continues pushing buyers to think more seriously about petrol consumption, even in traditionally fuel-hungry SUV segments.
This creates an opportunity for vehicles like this. Buyers no longer have to choose strictly between mechanical off-road capability and everyday efficiency. By combining a proper ladder-frame platform and genuine 4WD hardware with hybrid assistance, the TANK 300 HEV attempts to make a traditionally uncompromising off-roader more usable as a daily vehicle without diluting its core character.
