GWM ORA 5 HEV Opens Bookings In Malaysia, Promises 1,100km Range At RM115,000

GWM Malaysia has opened bookings for the all-new GWM ORA 5 HEV, a compact hybrid SUV that is expected to be priced at around RM115,000 when it launches in Malaysia in November.

Positioned as a new hybrid offering for Malaysians looking for electrification without the need for external charging, the ORA 5 HEV combines GWM’s Hi2 intelligent hybrid technology with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and electric motor.

The system produces a combined 223PS and 476Nm of torque, while claimed fuel consumption is as low as 4.4L/100km.

GWM also claims a total driving range of more than 1,100km under optimal conditions.

This combination allows the ORA 5 HEV to offer the benefits of electrification as well as the convenience of conventional refuelling.

The ORA 5 HEV was first previewed in Malaysia earlier this year and is positioned as a compact SUV that combines distinctive styling with hybrid performance, efficiency and everyday practicality.

GWM Malaysia Managing Director of Commercial Operations Stan Li said the ORA 5 HEV was developed to challenge expectations of what a compact hybrid SUV can offer.

“With the ORA 5 HEV, we wanted to challenge what Malaysians might expect from a compact hybrid SUV. It is distinctive in the way it looks, impressive in the way it performs and remarkably efficient in how far it can go.”

He added that the model was intended for customers who want the benefits of electrification while retaining the flexibility of longer driving range and convenient refuelling.

“Our Hi2 intelligent hybrid technology brings these qualities together in a package designed around the realities of everyday driving in Malaysia,” said Li.

GWM Malaysia Chief Operating Officer Roslan Abdullah said the ORA 5 HEV would strengthen the company’s New Energy Vehicle portfolio, which includes hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric models.

The compact SUV segment is a hotly contested one and the ORA 5 HEV will join it to attract Malaysian buyers who are considering electrified vehicles but may not yet be ready to depend entirely on charging infrastructure.

Unlike a plug-in hybrid or battery-electric vehicle, the ORA 5 HEV does not require external charging. Its hybrid system instead combines the petrol engine and electric motor to deliver the claimed balance of performance and efficiency.

The RM115,000 figure is an estimated selling price, while the final price, equipment list and full specifications will only be announced at the official Malaysian launch in November 2026.

Bookings are now open at authorised GWM dealerships nationwide. You can also register your interest through the official GWM Malaysia website.

The ORA 5 HEV will be here for buyers who want to stretch their BUDI95 allocation through lower fuel consumption, and do not have convenient access to charging infrastructure.

How attractive the estimated retail price of RM115,000 is to buyers will depend on the entire package.

The compact SUV market is already crowded, and buyers will be comparing not just power and styling, but also warranty, aftersales support, resale, safety equipment and the overall ownership proposition.
