Locally Assembled MG ZS Arriving In Malaysia End October, From RM105,000

SAIC Motor Malaysia will officially roll out the locally assembled MG ZS in Malaysia at the end of October 2026, with two variants priced from an estimated RM105,000.

Previewed at the KL International Mobility Show 2026 (KLIMS 2026), the new B-segment SUV will be offered in 1.5 Turbo and MG ZS Hybrid+ forms, with estimated prices of RM105,000 and RM115,000 respectively (excluding insurance in Peninsular Malaysia).

The first 1,000 customers who book either variant will receive early-bird benefits worth RM3,000, along with five years of complimentary maintenance.

The MG ZS Hybrid+ will also be on display at Nexus Bangsar South from 19 to 23 October (10am – 10pm).

Two Powertrain Options

The MG ZS 1.5 Turbo is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 170PS (125kW) and 275Nm of torque. It drives the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

MG claims an average combined fuel consumption of 6.9L/100km for the Turbo variant, which is fitted with a 55-litre fuel tank.

Meanwhile, the MG ZS Hybrid+ combines a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 100kW electric motor and a 1.83kWh NMC (lithium nickel-manganese-cobalt) battery.

The hybrid system delivers a combined maximum output of 215PS (158kW) and 465Nm of torque, managed by a three-speed hybrid transmission.

According to SAIC Motor Malaysia, the Hybrid+ can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 8.7 seconds, with claimed fuel consumption of 4.7L/100km and a driving range of up to 870km (petrol tank volume is 41 litres).

The hybrid system can also operate in electric mode at speeds of up to 80km/h under suitable driving conditions. And unlike a plug-in hybrid, the MG ZS Hybrid+ does not require external charging.

Spacious Cabin With 443-Litre Boot

Measuring 4,430mm long and 1,818mm wide, the MG ZS is positioned as a spacious option in the B-segment SUV category.

The cabin features a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch infotainment display and a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster. MG also highlights improved headroom and legroom, alongside practical storage solutions for everyday use.

Boot capacity is 443 litres and expands to 1,457 litres with the rear seats folded.

Exterior highlights include Connected Hunter Eyes headlights, black grille accents, rear LED taillights, a rear spoiler and alloy wheels.

The MG ZS will be available in Flare Red, Silver, Andes Grey and York White, with an all-black interior featuring perforated leatherette seats.

MG PILOT Safety Technology and Connected Features

Both variants will have MG PILOT driver assistance technology, including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) 2.5 features such as Intelligent Cruise Assist (ICA) and a Driver Fatigue Monitoring System (DFMS).

The MG iSMART connected-car system allows owners to access and control selected vehicle functions remotely through a smartphone, including keyless entry functionality.

SAIC Motor Malaysia managing director Emory Qi said the MG ZS Hybrid+ was developed to balance performance, efficiency and value for Malaysian consumers.

Its dedicated hybrid powertrain and three-speed hybrid transmission are designed to keep the engine and electric motor operating efficiently while delivering responsive performance.

Bookings for both variants are open through the official MG Malaysia website at www.mgmalaysia.com.

CarTok Editor’s Note

The locally assembled MG ZS enters a crowded Malaysian SUV market with two propositions: a conventional turbocharged petrol engine and a more powerful hybrid. The RM10,000 premium for the Hybrid+ buys significantly more power and lower claimed fuel consumption, although real-world savings will depend on driving conditions and habits.

The five-year complimentary maintenance package adds value for early customers, but the long-term ownership proposition will ultimately depend on service accessibility, parts availability and resale confidence.

At this price point, the MG ZS faces stiff competition from all sides, whether from Chinese, Japanese or even Malaysian marques. Converting its spec-sheet appeal and marketing promises into showroom visits, test drives and, more importantly, confirmed bookings will determine whether it can gain meaningful traction in the market.
