PROTON Brings Full Line-Up In Black Theme, EEA Tech Showcase To Penang Autoshow 2026

PROTON has brought its full core line-up to the Penang Autoshow 2026 under a unified black styling theme, the first time the brand has presented its key models this way in a single venue.
The display brings together the All-New Proton X50, Proton X90, Proton S70 and Proton X70 Sport Edition, each finished with darker visual elements to create a more cohesive and dynamic brand identity. The approach reflects Proton’s positioning as a “one brand for every Malaysian’s life journey,” covering everything from first-time buyers to growing families.

Each model continues to target a specific segment. The X50 remains Proton’s volume-driving B-segment SUV with turbocharged performance and connected features for urban users. The X90 anchors the line-up as a three-row SUV focused on space and practicality, while the S70 represents Proton’s push in the C-segment sedan space with a balance of performance and daily usability. Meanwhile, the X70 Sport Edition adds a more distinctive visual edge with blacked-out styling and red accents.
Also featured is the Proton Saga, still one of the brand’s most accessible and widely recognised nameplates. Positioned as an entry point into ownership, the Saga continues to prioritise affordability, low running costs and straightforward usability—factors that remain highly relevant in the current market.
Beyond the vehicles themselves, Proton is also using the autoshow to introduce its Electrical and Electronic Architecture (EEA) platform to the Northern region for the first time. The system underpins faster software updates, improved connectivity and enhanced safety integration. This is paired with the Intelligent Head Unit (IHU), developed by ACOTECH, which supports smartphone integration and Bahasa Malaysia voice recognition.

The showcase comes on the back of a strong start to 2026. Proton recorded 49,142 units in Q1, up 40.1% year-on-year, while market share climbed to 27.4%—its highest level in over two decades. Supporting this growth is a network of more than 190 service outlets and 77 Body & Paint centres nationwide, alongside ongoing improvements under its Fast and Better Commitment initiative.
“PROTON is focused on building a complete ecosystem that supports our customers beyond the point of purchase. Accessibility is not just about price, but also about ensuring Malaysians have the confidence to own and maintain their vehicles over time, with the right support, reliability, and value throughout their ownership journey,” said Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, CEO of Proton Edar.
Visitors to the PROTON booth can get up close with the full line-up and experience selected models—including the Saga, S70, X50, X90 and X70—through test drives. Exclusive autoshow deals and rewards are also available for customers who book a vehicle during the event.
CarTok Editor’s Note
A black theme might look like a styling exercise on the surface, but it might signal something bigger—that PROTON is no longer selling individual models in isolation. It’s selling a complete ownership pipeline, from first car to family upgrade, backed by a growing tech and aftersales ecosystem.
