Perodua Lowers QV-E Prices, Introduces Battery Ownership Option; Existing Owners To Receive Refunds

Perodua has announced a significant reduction in the price of its first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the QV-E, following increased localisation efforts and production efficiencies achieved together with its local supplier network.

The national automaker said it has shifted a substantial portion of QV-E component manufacturing to local vendors, reducing reliance on foreign supply chains while strengthening domestic automotive capabilities.

According to Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, the move not only helps protect local jobs but also improves parts availability for customers.

He said the higher localisation rate enables Perodua to build a more resilient inventory of spare parts, particularly body components, ensuring locally produced replacement parts are readily available when needed.

Lower Prices Across Both Ownership Models

Perodua has also increased QV-E production to more than 500 units per month, allowing the company to further optimise costs and pass the savings on to consumers.

The QV-E is now priced at RM93,999 for outright ownership, while the Battery as a Service (BAAS) option is priced at RM69,999, paired with a monthly battery subscription fee of RM215 (including tax) for nine years (reduced from RM275).

In conjunction with the announcement, Perodua is introducing a limited-time promotional price valid until 30 September 2026.

Under the promotion, customers can purchase the QV-E outright for RM87,499, or opt for the BAAS package at RM63,499 plus the same RM215 monthly battery fee.

New Option To Own The Battery

One of the biggest changes is the introduction of a full battery ownership option.

When the QV-E was first launched, Perodua positioned the Battery as a Service (BAAS) programme as a way to lower the initial purchase price of the vehicle while addressing concerns surrounding battery longevity, replacement costs and residual value. Under this model, ownership and management of the battery remained with Perodua, allowing the company to oversee battery health, replacement and eventual disposal.

Thus, the QV-E was previously marketed through its BAAS programme, where customers lease the battery separately from the vehicle.

The outright purchase model now allows buyers who want to own both the vehicle and battery from the start, giving customers greater flexibility in how they choose to own the EV.

For customers choosing the BAAS package, Perodua continues to manage the battery throughout the nine-year leasing period. The programme includes battery protection coverage, replacement and disposal services, as well as battery insurance.

Perodua said the arrangement is designed to provide peace of mind by removing concerns over battery maintenance and long-term battery health.

The company also confirmed that customers who purchase the battery outright can sell the battery back to Perodua when it eventually reaches the end of its usable life.

Existing Owners Also Benefit

Current QV-E owners will also receive benefits from the latest revision.

Perodua said existing customers will be contacted by their sales advisors regarding a special refund arrangement.

In addition, monthly BAAS payments for existing customers will be reduced from RM275 to RM215, with the new rate taking effect from their next payment cycle.

Up To 445km Range

The QV-E carries a five-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating and is equipped with a 52.5kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery.

Perodua claims a driving range of up to 445km (NEDC), depending on driving conditions, driving style and ambient temperature.

The company says the battery and range characteristics make the QV-E suitable for mid- to long-distance travel without frequent charging stops, which may also contribute to extending battery lifespan.

Customers interested in the QV-E can place a booking through the P-Circle mobile application or visit any authorised Perodua showroom nationwide.

CarTok Editor’s Note

Market feedback appears to have prompted Perodua to broaden the QV-E’s ownership proposition. Despite lacking the economies of scale that support its high-volume ICE models, the company has still managed to reduce the purchase price of its first EV while introducing an outright battery ownership option.

The BAAS package remains available for buyers who prefer Perodua to handle battery management and long-term replacement concerns. For a market that remains cautious about battery lifespan, replacement costs and EV resale values, offering both ownership models may prove to be the more important move than the price reduction itself.
