UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has successfully concluded the fifth edition of the Toyota Start Your Impossible (SYI) Outrun 2026, with more than 7,500 participants taking part and RM200,000 raised in support of the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM).

Held last weekend (5 July) at Dataran Wawasan, Putrajaya, the annual charity run brought together runners of all ages and abilities, reinforcing its position as a community-focused event that combines fitness, personal achievement and fundraising for a meaningful cause.

Participants took part in three categories comprising the 5KM Fun Run, 10KM Competitive Run and 21KM Half Marathon. This year’s edition recorded strong participation in the competitive categories, with 2,200 runners completing the 10KM race and another 1,800 taking on the half marathon.

According to UMW Toyota Motor President Datuk Ravindran K., the continued support reflects the event’s growing importance among Malaysians.

“What makes this fifth edition significant is the consistency of support behind it. Toyota SYI Outrun has become a mid-year run that Malaysians return to because it is accessible, positive and connected to a cause that continues to matter.”

“For UMWT, this reflects the value of building community initiatives over time, where every edition strengthens participation, awareness and practical support for organisations such as NCSM. We are grateful to the runners, partners, supporters and volunteers who helped make this year’s event another meaningful milestone.”

Toyota Start Your Impossible Outrun was first introduced in 2019 as part of Toyota’s global Start Your Impossible initiative. The programme initially supported the Paralympic Council of Malaysia before shifting its fundraising efforts to the National Cancer Society of Malaysia in recent editions.

Competitive Racing And Community Activities

Set against the backdrop of Putrajaya’s landmarks, the event featured scenic running routes alongside an event village that welcomed participants, supporters, volunteers and corporate partners throughout the morning.

A total prize pool worth RM138,000 was awarded to the top 10 finishers across the competitive race categories.

The event also marked the first official UMW Toyota Motor appearance of Muhammad Ammar Aiman Nor Azmi following his appointment to Toyota’s Global Team Toyota Athlete (GTTA) programme.

The Johor-born para sprinter, who won gold at the Asian Para Games, is part of Toyota’s global initiative that supports athletes who demonstrate perseverance while inspiring positive change beyond competition. His participation reflected Toyota’s “Mobility for All” philosophy and its continued emphasis on inclusivity through sports.

UMWT said it intends to continue growing the Toyota Start Your Impossible Outrun as a platform that encourages Malaysians to stay active while supporting charitable causes and strengthening community engagement.

CarTok Editor’s Note

Corporate fun runs are common, but sustaining a branded event like the Toyota Start Your Impossible Outrun over several years is something many brands struggle to achieve. Reaching its fifth edition and attracting more than 7,500 participants suggests it has evolved beyond a marketing exercise into an event people look forward to. More importantly, raising RM200,000 for the National Cancer Society of Malaysia demonstrates that when organised consistently, community initiatives can deliver benefits that extend well beyond the automotive industry.
