PUSPAKOM Expands GEAR To All 26 Inspection Centres Nationwide

PUSPAKOM will expand its GiCheck Early Access Reservation (GEAR) service to all 26 inspection centres nationwide following a pilot that recorded strong customer demand and exceeded its operational, customer and business performance targets.

The expansion will be carried out in phases throughout August 2026, giving motorists an additional option to secure earlier vehicle inspection appointments while standard booking slots remain available.

PUSPAKOM said the GEAR pilot recorded a 98.8% booking rate, while the customer turn-up rate reached 93.7%. The average inspection time was also recorded at just 33 minutes per vehicle.

The company said the results demonstrated strong market acceptance of the premium booking service and confirmed its operational readiness for a nationwide rollout.

GEAR Rollout In Phases

The first phase of the expansion, which began in the second week of August, covers 11 branches in the Central and Southern regions:

  • Padang Jawa
  • Cheras
  • Pandan Mewah
  • Banting
  • Bangi
  • Seremban
  • Alor Gajah
  • Muar
  • Kluang
  • Johor Bahru
  • Senai

The second phase, scheduled for the fourth week of August, will extend GEAR to branches in the Northern, Eastern, Sabah and Sarawak regions, including Alor Setar, Sungai Petani, Teluk Kumbar, Mak Mandin, Ipoh, Gopeng, Taiping, Kota Bharu, Kuala Terengganu, Kuantan, Kota Samarahan and Kota Kinabalu.

PUSPAKOM said up to 80 GEAR booking slots will be available daily during each phase.

The company’s announcement states that GEAR will ultimately be available at all 26 PUSPAKOM inspection centres nationwide. However, the branch list supplied for the two phases names 23 centres, with the remaining three centres not specified in the announcement.

Earlier Appointments

GEAR was introduced as an additional booking option for customers who want greater flexibility in securing an earlier inspection appointment.

Importantly, PUSPAKOM said the service does not replace its standard booking system, allowing customers to continue using the existing booking option.

PUSPAKOM Chief Executive Officer Mahmood Razak Bahman said the strong response showed that customers value greater flexibility when arranging their vehicle inspections. “The results have exceeded our expectations. More importantly, they demonstrate that customers value having greater flexibility in securing earlier inspection appointments while preserving fair access to our standard booking system. The exceptionally high booking rate, strong customer turn-up and encouraging feedback give us confidence that GEAR is delivering meaningful value, and that is why we are moving quickly to make it available at all PUSPAKOM inspection centres nationwide.”

He added that the company would continue introducing practical improvements to make the inspection process more convenient while maintaining operational efficiency and reliability.

“At PUSPAKOM, innovation is driven by the needs of our customers. GEAR is one example of how we continue to enhance our services by making the inspection journey more convenient, accessible and customer-focused, while maintaining the efficiency, reliability and integrity that our customers expect. We will continue to introduce practical improvements that create a better experience for all Malaysians,” Mahmood added.

What GEAR Results Mean For Motorists

The pilot results point to a straightforward issue in Malaysia’s vehicle inspection process: appointment availability is itself an important part of customer experience.

A 98.8% booking rate suggests there is substantial demand from motorists willing to pay for greater flexibility in obtaining an earlier appointment, while the 93.7% turn-up rate indicates that most customers who secured GEAR appointments followed through.

The 33-minute average inspection time is also significant because reducing the time spent at an inspection centre can make the overall process more predictable for vehicle owners and businesses.

Now the onus is on PUSPAKOM to maintain these operational performance levels as GEAR moves from a controlled pilot to a nationwide service.

With the rollout covering all regions, the service will also provide a larger test of whether demand for earlier inspection appointments is consistent across Malaysia rather than concentrated around the major urban centres.

CarTok Editor’s Note

GEAR is interesting because PUSPAKOM is effectively turning appointment availability into a service differentiator.

The almost perfect booking rate suggests motorists place real value on getting an earlier inspection slot, particularly when vehicle inspection is a requirement that can affect ownership transfers, commercial operations and other time-sensitive transactions.

The challenge for PUSPAKOM will be maintaining this convenience as the system scales up nationwide. An early appointment is only valuable if the inspection process remains predictable once customers arrive.

The reported 33-minute average inspection time is therefore as important as the booking rate. If PUSPAKOM can consistently deliver both earlier appointments and efficient inspections, GEAR becomes a meaningful improvement to one of the procedural parts of vehicle ownership in Malaysia, and represents an additional income stream to the company.
