2026 Kia Carnival Launched in Malaysia: Sharper Design, Updated Tech, From RM188,888

Kia Sales Malaysia (KSM) has officially launched the 2026 Kia Carnival, a facelifted version of its flagship MPV and the brand’s first model introduction under Kia Sales Malaysia’s standalone structure.
The updated Carnival brings refreshed exterior styling, a more refined interior, and enhanced technology and safety features, strengthening its appeal in Malaysia’s large MPV segment. The model is locally assembled (CKD) in Kulim, Kedah, and is offered in both 7-seater and 11-seater configurations.

First Kia Launch Under New Malaysia Structure
Speaking at the launch event, Kia Sales Malaysia President and CEO, Hyung Ho Kim said:
“The launch of the new Kia Carnival represents more than just a product introduction – it reflects our long-term commitment to Malaysia. At Kia Sales Malaysia, our strategy is centred on offering the best-fit products for local customers, combining quality, relevance and long-term ownership value. The new Kia Carnival is a clear embodiment of this philosophy and an important milestone as we continue to strengthen Kia’s presence in Malaysia.”

Kia Sales Malaysia Managing Director, Emily Lek added:
“This launch is our first introduction to the market to get to know us again. The question “Kenapa Pilih Kia?” is the question that ignites this new era of Kia in Malaysia. This is the new Kia: thoughtful in design, purposeful in innovation and made to inspire in every journey.”
Two CKD Diesel Variants for Malaysia
For Malaysia, the 2026 Kia Carnival facelift is offered in two locally assembled diesel variants:
- 2.2D 11-seater
- 2.2D 7-seater
Both are powered by Kia’s familiar 2.2-litre Smartstream four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, producing 202 PS at 3,800 rpm and 440 Nm of torque from 1,750 to 2,750 rpm, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission sending drive to the front wheels.
Kia quotes a combined fuel consumption of 6.5 litres per 100 km (NEDC), maintaining the Carnival’s reputation for long-distance efficiency despite its size.

Facelifted Design with Stronger Road Presence
The 2026 update brings a more assertive look guided by Kia’s “Opposites United” design philosophy.
Up front, a revised grille, reshaped bumper and harmonised skid plate give the Carnival a more modern, upright stance. The Star Map daytime running lights and vertical headlamp clusters provide a sharper, more high-tech visual signature.

At the rear, the repositioned number plate housing cleans up the tailgate design, while the Star Map tail lamps align the Carnival with Kia’s latest global design language.
A simple way to tell the two variants apart — short of peering inside to count seats — is to look at the side mirrors and wheel size. The 11-seater runs on 18-inch wheels, while the 7-seater gets larger 19-inch alloys.

Interior Updates Focus on Comfort and Usability
Inside, the facelifted Carnival continues to prioritise space, comfort and everyday practicality.
The 11-seater adopts a 2-3-3-3 configuration, featuring central folding jump seats in the second and third rows to improve access for rear passengers.

The more luxurious 7-seater, meanwhile, uses a 2-2-3 layout and is equipped with Premium Relaxion Seats in the second row with lateral slide functionality. Fold-flat third-row seats sink into the floor to enhance cargo flexibility.

Ambient lighting stretches across the dashboard, crash pad and door trims, enhancing cabin ambience, while a horizontally aligned infotainment and climate control layout keeps the dashboard visually clean.
A curved panoramic display integrates a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch infotainment screen, while physical controls remain for key functions. Enlarged cup holders further emphasise the Carnival’s family-oriented design.

Beyond seating layout, the two variants are clearly differentiated by interior equipment. The 11-seater focuses on practicality, featuring leatherette upholstery and a more functional specification aimed at maximising passenger capacity. The 7-seater, by contrast, leans into a more premium experience with leather seats, a head-up display, heated and ventilated front and second-row seats with memory for the driver, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and additional driver assistance features. The gap in pricing then, reflects not just fewer seats, but a noticeably more upmarket cabin and technology package.
Safety Remains a Key Highlight
Safety equipment has been strengthened for the facelift, with eight airbags fitted as standard, including a centre-side airbag to reduce secondary impact between front occupants.
All variants are equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems, including:
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2.0 (FCA 2.0)
- Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA)
- Highway Drive Assist 2 (HDA 2)
- Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
- Lane Following Assist (LFA)
- Driver Attention Warning (DAW)
- High Beam Assist (HBA)
- Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA)
- Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCTA)
- Rear Occupant Alert (ROA)

- 2.2D 11-seater: from RM188,888

CarTok Editor’s Note
This isn’t a reinvention, and it doesn’t need to be. The 2026 Carnival offers a sharper design, upgraded tech but keeps pricing realistic — exactly what a mature MPV in Malaysia should be doing. Diesel may no longer be heavily subsidised, but the Carnival still delivers strong range per tank, backed by the kind of torque that actually makes sense in a fully loaded people-mover.
