Ford Expands Ranger Range In Malaysia With New Platinum, Sport And XL Variants

Sime Darby Auto ConneXion-Ford has expanded its Next-Generation Ford Ranger line-up in Malaysia with the introduction of three new variants – the premium Ranger Platinum, lifestyle-focused Ranger Sport and work-oriented Ranger XL. The expanded range is aimed at giving buyers more choice as pick-up trucks continue to evolve beyond traditional commercial use.

The launch also coincides with another milestone for the Blue Oval brand, with more than 24,000 Next-Generation Ford Rangers now on Malaysian roads since the model’s local debut in 2022.

Ranger Platinum Headlines Expanded Range

Sitting at the top of the line-up is the new Ford Ranger Platinum, designed for customers looking for a more premium pick-up experience without sacrificing capability.

Power comes from Ford’s 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine producing 250PS (247hp) at 3,250rpm and 600Nm of torque at 1,750-2,000rpm, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission with Select Shift.

The flagship model distinguishes itself with an exclusive Platinum grille, 20-inch alloy wheels, Flexible Rack System, swing-in-place roof rails and Acacia Green exterior finish. Inside, buyers get quilted leather-accented seats with heating and ventilation, Platinum-specific interior trim, and an eight-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system.

Ranger Sport Blends Lifestyle And Capability

Positioned as a lifestyle-oriented variant, the Ranger Sport is offered with either a 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel or 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine.

The V6 version features a full-time four-wheel-drive system, while the 2.0-litre variant uses a part-time four-wheel-drive setup. The latter engine produces 170PS (168hp) at 3,500rpm and 405Nm at 1,750-2,500rpm. Both are paired with the 10-speed gearbox.

Exterior highlights include a black-accented grille and 18-inch alloy wheels, while the cabin gains two-tone seats and a digital instrument cluster. Ford says the Sport is targeted at urban professionals and active families who want a pick-up that is equally suited for daily driving and weekend adventures.

Ranger XL Targets Commercial Users

Completing the new trio is the Ranger XL, which is aimed at businesses, fleet operators and commercial users. It utilises the 2.0-litre turbo diesel shared with the Ranger Sport 2.0.

The entry-level variant focuses on practicality with a durable cargo bed, six airbags and essential connectivity and safety technologies while retaining the Ranger’s proven workhorse credentials.

Proven capability remains

Across the Ranger family, Ford continues to offer up to 1,000kg payload capacity, 3,500kg towing capability and 800mm water-wading depth.

Depending on variant, buyers also get features such as Electronic Shift-on-the-Fly (ESOF), an Electromagnetic Transfer Case (EMTC), a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, selectable drive modes and up to four USB charging ports.

Range Of Prices

The expanded Ford Ranger range is now open for booking with the following recommended retail prices (on-the-road without insurance, Peninsular Malaysia):

  • Ranger XL – RM127,888
  • Ranger Sport 2.0L – RM145,888
  • Ranger Sport 3.0L – RM159,888
  • Ranger Platinum – RM205,888

As part of a launch promotion until 31 August 2026, buyers of the Ranger XL and Ranger Sport 2.0L will receive a complimentary Ford Front HD1080p dashcam, while Ranger Sport 3.0L and Ranger Platinum customers will receive a complimentary two-year Basic Extended Service Plan.

Ford Surpasses 24,000 Rangers And Strengthens East Malaysia Support

Alongside the model launch, Auto ConneXion-Ford announced that more than 24,000 Next-Generation Ford Rangers are now on Malaysian roads, highlighting the pick-up’s popularity since its introduction in 2022. The company also highlighted Ford’s global success, with approximately 5.1 million Rangers sold across more than 180 markets over the past two decades.

To further improve ownership support, Ford has established a new Parts Hub in Kota Kinabalu, which will begin phased operations from 27 July 2026. Stocking around 1,000 fast-moving genuine Ford and Motorcraft parts, the facility is expected to shorten parts lead times for authorised dealerships across East Malaysia, including same-day delivery for selected components within Kota Kinabalu.

Ford also announced that its inaugural Ford Nation community event will be held on 1 August 2026 at Heritage Valley, Kuala Lumpur, bringing together owners and enthusiasts through vehicle displays and activities.

CarTok Editor’s Note

Instead of the usual cosmetic special editions, Ford has expanded the Ranger range with defined roles. The Platinum caters to buyers seeking premium comfort, the Sport targets lifestyle users, while the XL strengthens the brand’s appeal among commercial and fleet customers.

This broader spread should help Ford defend its position in Malaysia’s competitive pick-up market.
