Grab Malaysia Introduces Women-Only Rides in Klang Valley, Expands Women Driver-Partner Programme

Grab Malaysia has introduced a new Women-Only Rides (Beta) service alongside a nationwide campaign to recruit more women driver-partners, marking its International Women’s Day 2026 (IWD2026) initiative aimed at improving safety options and expanding economic opportunities for women.

The new ride option is currently available via Advance Booking (AB) in the Klang Valley, where women passengers can choose to be matched exclusively with verified women driver-partners.

According to Grab, the feature responds to requests from both riders and drivers seeking greater comfort and safety — particularly for women travelling alone.

Women-Only Rides Designed for Added Peace of Mind

The Women-Only Rides (Beta) option appears only to women passengers within the Grab app and ensures that the ride is matched solely with women driver-partners.

To access the service, passengers must complete a one-time gender verification process using their MyKad or passport alongside a selfie, which is then cross-referenced against official records.

Grab says this additional verification layer helps maintain platform integrity while ensuring the service is used as intended.

“This launch deepens our longstanding commitment to safety and empowerment. Built on Grab’s existing safety infrastructure, the Women-Only Rides (Beta) builds on our #SisBoleh initiative which started in 2023. It’s not just a new feature, it’s about ensuring every woman has a safe space to move and earn,” said Adelene Foo, Managing Director, Grab Malaysia.

“By strengthening trust, we create mutual benefits: greater comfort for women passengers and more earning opportunities for women driver-partners. When we prioritise a woman’s peace of mind, we also support her path to financial independence.”

Grab notes that the initiative complements existing public safety measures such as women-only train coaches and designated parking areas, extending similar protections to the last-mile ride-hailing journey.

The service was introduced during Grab’s International Women’s Day celebration, attended by Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Lim Hui Ying, and hosted for the platform’s women driver-partners.

Nationwide Campaign to Recruit More Women Drivers

Alongside the new ride category, Grab Malaysia has launched a Women Driver Acquisition campaign running from 8 March to 30 September 2026.

The nationwide initiative aims to grow the number of women driver-partners on the platform, particularly to support demand for Women-Only Rides.

New women driver-partners will be eligible for rewards worth up to RM100,000, including fuel vouchers and a Proton Saga grand prize.

The campaign also highlights Grab’s flexible earning model, encouraging more women to participate in the digital economy while working on their own schedules.

Built on Grab’s #SisBoleh Initiative

Both initiatives form part of the evolution of #SisBoleh, Grab’s women empowerment programme launched in 2023.

The programme is built around three pillars:

  • #SisBoleh Drive With Confidence
  • #SisBoleh LevelUp
  • #SisBoleh Community

Together, these initiatives are designed to support women partners through safety resources, skills development, and community support.

Safety Infrastructure Behind the Platform

Grab says the Women-Only Rides service operates on top of its existing safety ecosystem, which includes:

  • Driver onboarding screening involving security checks and health assessments
  • AI-powered facial verification to confirm user identity before app access
  • Number masking to protect personal contact details
  • Share My Ride for real-time trip sharing with trusted contacts
  • SOS emergency button providing 24/7 assistance
  • AudioProtect, an encrypted audio recording system mandatory for night rides (10pm–6am)
  • Trip monitoring technology to detect route deviations or unusual stops
  • Telematics safety reports that help drivers improve driving behaviour

“Quietly working in the background, these safety features help ensure that every Women-Only Rides (Beta) and every Grab ride feels more secure, so women can focus on where they are going and what they want to achieve, rather than how they will get home,” concluded Adelene.

CarTok Editor’s Note

This isn’t just a new ride option — it’s a strategic move to reshape both supply and demand in Malaysia’s ride-hailing market. By linking women-only rides with a nationwide push to recruit more women drivers, Grab is turning safety and empowerment into a competitive differentiator, while testing whether services designed around gender can scale in urban mobility. It could redefine how Malaysian ride-hailing platforms think about who rides, who drives, and how trust is built on the road.
