SKILLDRVN OMR Season 4 Begins At Sepang With New Pro Series Category

The SKILLDRVN OMR 2026 Season 4 officially opened its first round at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit last weekend (16–17 May), marking another milestone for Malaysia’s growing grassroots motorsport scene.

Now entering its fourth season, the one-make racing championship features a grid of 15 Suzuki Swift race cars this year, consisting of four entries in the newly introduced Pro Series category and 11 competitors in the regular OMR Series.

Organisers say the championship continues to focus on affordable and equal racing by maintaining controlled specifications across the grid, allowing driver skill to play a bigger role while keeping operating costs relatively manageable for competitors.

A major development for the 2026 season is the introduction of the OMR Pro Series, which brings a more competitive layer to the championship. Unlike the standard OMR Series, the Pro Series features team-owned race cars with upgraded drivetrain and handling setups, managed by established racing teams and brand principals.

The four confirmed Pro Series teams and drivers are:

  • BENDIX ULTIMATE RACING TEAM – #888 Teoh Cheong Liong
  • PROFIMAX RACING TEAM – #27 Andy Boey Kai Jin
  • TEAM ULTRA RACING – #331 Loke Yin Yi
  • ELF EVOLUTION TEAM – #168 Vox Lim Keng Jun

All four drivers are making their debut in the Pro Series category this season.

Another significant change this year is the championship running its own dedicated standing start format for the first time, following four years of development and experience in the local motorsport scene.

The 2026 calendar will feature five rounds, with each weekend consisting of two sprint races. Race 1 uses a rolling start format while Race 2 features a standing start.

Qualifying saw reigning OMR Series champion #331 Loke Yin Yi secure pole position for the Pro Series category, while #512 Imran claimed pole in the OMR Series.

Race 1 delivered intense wheel-to-wheel action throughout the field. In the Pro Series, Andy Boey briefly took the lead after overtaking Yin Yi on Lap 4 before late drama unfolded on the final lap as Yin Yi and Vox Lim both overtook Boey in the closing stages.

Meanwhile, Imran maintained a composed drive in the OMR Series to secure victory after defending strong pressure throughout the race.

One of the standout performances came from #791 Seow Chee Fong, who charged from the back of the grid into fourth place by Lap 3 during Race 1.

Race 2 continued with similarly aggressive racing across both categories. Andy Boey recorded the fastest lap in the Pro Series with a 2:49.662 lap time while continuing to pressure the leaders.

At the end of the weekend, the final results were as follows:

PRO SERIES

1st – Loke Yin Yi (Team Ultra Racing)
2nd – Vox Lim Keng Jun (ELF Evolution Team)
3rd – Andy Boey Kai Jin (Profimax Racing Team)

OMR SERIES

1st – Imran Iskandar
2nd – Rafin Ghaith Danial
3rd – Lee G Young

According to SKILLDRVN OMR, the championship also aims to build a broader motorsport ecosystem that helps educate and develop new racers through a more structured pathway into competitive racing.

The organisers added that the introduction of the Pro Series is intended to create clearer progression opportunities for talented grassroots drivers while strengthening the overall competitiveness of the series.

CarTok Editor’s Note

Grassroots racing only survives when the barrier to entry stays realistic. That is what makes one-make racing relevant. Instead of chasing outright horsepower or expensive engineering wars, the focus shifts back to driver consistency, race craft and close competition. The addition of a Pro Series also creates something Malaysia’s motorsport scene often lacks — a clearer ladder between amateur racing and professionally supported teams.
