Honda Prelude Returns To Malaysia With New S+ Shift Hybrid Technology, Priced From RM278,000

Honda Malaysia launched the all-new Honda Prelude at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2026, and marked the return of one of the brand’s most iconic nameplates after more than two decades.
Priced at RM278,000, the sixth-generation Prelude arrives as a sporty hybrid grand tourer that blends performance, efficiency and everyday usability. It also debuts Honda’s new S+ Shift technology, making it the first model in Malaysia to feature the system.
Developed under Honda’s “Unlimited Glide” concept, the new Prelude aims to deliver a balance of engaging driving dynamics, premium comfort and practical daily usability.

Hybrid Power With A More Engaging Character
Powering the Prelude is Honda’s familiar 2.0-litre e:HEV hybrid powertrain, producing 184PS and 315Nm of torque.
The headline feature is the new S+ Shift technology, a motor-driven hybrid control system designed to make the driving experience feel more connected and engaging. The system actively manages engine rpm during acceleration and deceleration to create a sharper, more direct response while simulating gear-shift sensations.

Honda says the system works together with Active Sound Control and dedicated power meter displays to provide a more immersive driving experience.
Drivers can choose between three drive modes: Sport Mode, GT Mode, Comfort Mode.
An Individual Mode also allows drivers to customise powertrain, steering, suspension, display and engine sound settings according to personal preference.
First Honda With Coasting Control Operation
The Prelude is also the first Honda model to feature Coasting Control Operation.
The system enables smoother deceleration and reduces the need for constant switching between the accelerator and brake pedals, particularly in everyday driving situations.
Underneath, the Prelude adopts several chassis technologies derived from the Civic Type R, including:
- Dual-axis strut front suspension
- Adaptive Damper System
- Agile Handling Assist (AHA)
These systems are designed to improve steering precision, cornering stability and overall driver confidence.
Fastback Coupe Design
The new Prelude adopts a sleek fastback silhouette inspired by the smooth movement of a glider.
Exterior highlights include:
- Black chrome front grille
- LED headlights
- LED rear combination lamps with red lenses
- Flush door handles
- 19-inch alloy wheels
- Blue Brembo brake calipers
- Blue exterior accent detailing
Honda has also integrated the radio antenna into the rear glass to create a cleaner roofline flowing uninterrupted into the tailgate.

Driver-Focused Cabin
Inside, the Prelude features what Honda calls a Gliding Cockpit design, aimed at creating a stronger connection between the driver and vehicle.
The front seats are designed with different priorities. The driver’s seat focuses on support and engagement during spirited driving, while the passenger seat emphasises comfort and easier entry and exit.
Features include:
- 9-inch Advanced Display Audio system
- Google Built-in connectivity
- Google Maps
- Google Assistant
- Google Play
- Bose premium audio system
Despite its coupe styling, Honda says the Prelude retains practical usability, with enough luggage space to accommodate two medium-sized suitcases.

Safety remains a key focus, with the Prelude equipped with the full Honda SENSING suite of advanced driver assistance systems.
The model is offered in three exterior colours: Winter Frost Pearl, Rallye Red, Crystal Black Pearl.
Bookings for the all-new Honda Prelude are now open nationwide.
CarTok Editor’s Note
The original Prelude built its reputation on introducing new technology to drivers who enjoyed being behind the wheel. The sixth-generation model appears to want to continue this tradition.
The new Prelude feels both like a nostalgia project and a technology showcase. Beyond the familiar nameplate, it serves as a test of whether a new generation of electrified cars can still deliver the emotional appeal and driver engagement enthusiasts expect. The original Prelude helped introduce innovative technologies to Honda’s line-up. More than three decades later, its successor may be signalling the direction the brand intends to take.
