Dato’ Abdul Rashid Musa Returns to PROTON as Deputy CEO

PROTON Holdings Berhad has officially announced the return of Dato’ Abdul Rashid Musa as the company’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 November 2025. In his new role, he reports directly to PROTON CEO Dr Li Chunrong.

A veteran of Malaysia’s automotive industry, Dato’ Abdul Rashid brings with him over three decades of experience in engineering, manufacturing, and product development. His return marks a significant homecoming — having previously served as Chief Technical Officer and later as CEO of Proton Edar, where he oversaw major milestones such as the launch of the Proton X70 in 2018, a pivotal moment in PROTON’s modern era.

After leaving PROTON, Dato’ Abdul Rashid joined UMW Holdings Berhad, where he led the aerospace division and spearheaded initiatives in mobility, innovation, and sustainable development, aligning with Malaysia’s national agenda to strengthen its automotive and industrial ecosystem.
“PROTON is delighted to welcome back Dato’ Abdul Rashid Musa. His wealth of experience and insight into the Malaysian automotive industry and his familiarity with our operations will play a key role in supporting our transformation and advancing the company’s growth,” said Dr Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer of PROTON.
“At the same time, we would also like to say thank you to Ainol Azmil, who capably served as Covering Deputy CEO from 10 June to 31 October this year.”
With the appointment, Ainol Azmil will resume his positions as Vice President, Corporate Strategy, and Senior Director of Group Technical Procurement. PROTON expresses appreciation for his leadership during the interim period, commending his steady guidance that ensured management continuity.
Rashid’s return signals more than just a reunion — it’s a strategic move that brings one of PROTON’s most seasoned hands back into the cockpit as the national automaker accelerates toward its next phase of transformation.
