Team Selangor Wins Overall Title At KPM–Perodua Badminton Talent Development Programme

Team Selangor is crowned the overall champion at the final round of the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM)–Perodua Badminton Talent Development Programme (BTDP), held at IOI Sports Centre Putrajaya.

Launched in 2018, BTDP is Perodua’s largest corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative involving schoolchildren nationwide. This year’s programme attracted 2,800 pupils aged between nine and 12.

Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the programme has benefited 14,000 students since its inception, supported by 140 teacher-coaches across 70 training centres nationwide.

Selected students receive access to well-equipped training facilities and professional coaching, opportunities that would otherwise typically be available only at specialised sports schools.

According to Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin, BTDP aims to give young badminton talents access to structured training from an early age to become the next generation of players who will carry the sport forward.

The programme is open to pupils aged nine to 12 from national schools (SK), national-type Chinese schools (SJKC) and national-type Tamil schools (SJKT) under the Ministry of Education. Training is conducted at 70 designated BTDP centres across the country.
