Malaysia Government Announces 50% Toll Discount for Christmas Travel on 23 – 24 December

The Malaysia government has announced a 50% toll discount for private vehicles nationwide in conjunction with the upcoming Christmas holiday, offering some cost relief for motorists travelling during this peak holiday period.

The discount will be in effect for two days – from 12:01 A.M. on 23 December (Tuesday) until 11:59 P.M. on 24 December (Wednesday). The discount applies to Class 1 private vehicles at most toll plazas across the country. In the case of Penang Bridge, Class 2 vehicles will also enjoy the same reduction.

However, the discount will not apply at the national border entry points such as the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) Toll Plaza on the North–South Expressway and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza on the Malaysia–Singapore Second Link (LINKEDUA).

According to the Works Ministry, the festive toll reduction is intended to ease the financial burden on road users travelling to visit family or go on holiday during the year-end school break and Christmas celebrations. The government will compensate highway concessionaires for the revenue shortfall, with the total cost estimated at around RM20.65 million.

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys ahead of time, monitor real-time traffic updates, and follow highway operator advisories, as higher traffic volumes are expected on major expressways during the two-day period.

The Works Ministry is also encouraging those traveling during this period to plan their journeysusing the TuJu Highway Navigation App by LLM or the MyPLUS-TTA app to ensure a smoother and more comfortable trip.

CarTok Editor’s Note:
Not a full toll-free ride, but it is still a meaningful and welcome cut. This festive discount will make long-distance drives a little easier on the wallet, especially with holiday traffic. Just remember to take breaks during your drive so you don’t get too exhausted. The kids will need to stretch their legs too. And make sure you have enough credits for the toll plazas.
