Motul Joins McLaren Endurance Racing Ahead of 2027 FIA WEC Hypercar Debut

Motul has been confirmed as the official lubricants partner of McLaren Endurance Racing, expanding on its existing partnership with McLaren’s Formula 1 programme announced last year.
The collaboration will see Motul support the McLaren United Autosports WEC Hypercar Team with advanced lubricants covering the engine, transmission and differential, alongside technical collaboration as McLaren prepares for its return to top-level endurance racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) from 2027.

Technical Partnership Focused on Endurance Performance
Drawing on decades of endurance racing experience, Motul’s role goes beyond supply, with the French lubricant specialist working closely with McLaren Endurance Racing to develop bespoke fluid solutions tailored specifically for the demands of the Hypercar programme.
James Barclay, Team Principal, McLaren Endurance Racing said,
“Today marks an important milestone for McLaren Endurance Racing as we look ahead and continue to build on the great preparations and support for the McLaren United AS Team’s Hypercar debut in 2027. Welcoming Motul to this exciting project strengthens our team for the challenge ahead. Motul brings invaluable expertise across performance, technology and innovation. In a sport where every aspect matters we’re proud to have Motul alongside us as we continue building momentum towards our return to endurance racing.”
Motul will contribute technical expertise in lubricant formulation to ensure sustained performance, reliability and consistency under the prolonged mechanical stresses unique to endurance racing.
Julien Plet, Head of R&D, Motul said,
“Endurance racing is about sustaining performance over time, hour after hour, under constant mechanical stress. Working closely with McLaren Endurance Racing is a particularly exciting collaboration, allowing us to co-create bespoke fluid solutions focused on consistency, durability and reliability, qualities that truly define performance in endurance competition.”
Deep Roots in Endurance Racing
Motul’s involvement in endurance racing stretches back to the 1950s, with a long-standing presence at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That commitment was further reinforced in 2016, when Motul was appointed official lubricants partner of the FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Beyond circuit racing, Motul’s endurance credentials also extend to long-distance events such as the Dakar Rally, contributing to its reputation for developing fluid solutions capable of operating reliably in extreme conditions.
This endurance-proven expertise now feeds directly into McLaren’s Hypercar ambitions, with Motul applying its R&D capabilities to co-create lubricants designed specifically for sustained performance at the highest level of endurance competition.
CarTok Editor’s Note
Endurance racing is rarely won on outright speed alone — partnerships like this are about surviving Hour 23 as cleanly as Hour One, and McLaren appears to be building its 2027 return with that reality firmly in mind.
