Volvo ES90 Launched in Malaysia: Locally Assembled Electric Flagship Priced from RM339,888

Volvo Car Malaysia has officially launched the Volvo ES90, marking the brand’s entry into the fully electric premium sedan segment in Malaysia. Assembled at Volvo’s Shah Alam plant, the ES90 is the brand’s new electric flagship, combining long-range capability, fast charging, and Volvo’s latest safety and software technology.
The Volvo ES90 is priced from RM339,888, with an exclusive 2% early-bird incentive offered to the first 100 bookings, valid until 31 March 2026.

Volvo’s First Electric Sedan, Made in Malaysia
The ES90 is Volvo’s first fully electric sedan and the latest locally assembled model for Malaysia. Built on Volvo’s SPA2 platform with an 800-volt electrical architecture, the ES90 represents a strategic shift as Volvo transitions its premium lineup towards full electrification.

Chris Wailes, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia and Thailand, said:
“For 60 years, Volvo has been part of the Malaysian journey. Today, we turn a new page with the launch of the ES90. This is the car for the driver who seeks balance – blending the executive presence of a premium sedan with the sustainability and performance of our latest electric technology. It is locally assembled, globally class-leading, and designed to look after you like only a Volvo can”.
Long Range and Fast Charging for Malaysian Driving Conditions
One of the ES90’s key highlights is its WLTP-rated range of up to 651 km, allowing long-distance travel between major cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru with fewer charging stops.
Thanks to its 800V architecture, the ES90 supports DC fast charging from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes using a 350 kW DC charger, helping reduce downtime on longer journeys.
The lightweight electrical system also contributes to improved efficiency and aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient of just 0.25.

Fastback Design with Practical SUV-Like Space
Although positioned as a sedan, the Volvo ES90 adopts a fastback profile with a slightly raised ride height, offering a more commanding driving position while retaining sleek proportions.
Design highlights include:
- Signature Thor’s Hammer LED headlights
- Distinctive C-shaped LED rear lamps with illuminated rear window elements
- Aerodynamically optimised roofline for improved range
Customers can choose from four exterior colours: Vapour Grey, Crystal White, Denim Blue, and Onyx Black.
Practicality is enhanced by a wide-opening tailgate, with 424 litres of boot space, expanding to 904 litres with the 40:20:40 split rear seats folded. A 27-litre front compartment provides additional storage for charging cables.

Quiet, Spacious and Comfort-Focused Cabin
Inside, the ES90 follows Volvo’s Scandinavian design philosophy, prioritising space, comfort and natural materials. A 3.1-metre wheelbase delivers generous rear legroom, making it suitable for families and chauffeur-driven use.

Key interior features include:
- Ventilated Nordico upholstery in Charcoal
- Six ambient lighting themes
- Electrochromic panoramic glass roof with up to 99.9% UV protection
- Four-zone climate control with advanced air purification
Volvo claims the ES90 is one of its quietest cabins to-date, enhancing the experience of the Bowers & Wilkins audio system with 25 speakers and 1,610 watts output, complete with Dolby Atmos® and an Abbey Road Studios sound mode.

NVIDIA-Powered Intelligence and Google Built-In
The Volvo ES90 is the first Volvo model powered by NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin, capable of processing trillions of operations per second. Acting as the vehicle’s central computer, it supports advanced driver assistance, safety monitoring and future software upgrades.
Built on Volvo’s Superset technology stack, the ES90 is designed to evolve over time via over-the-air updates, improving efficiency, safety and infotainment functionality throughout ownership.

The infotainment system features:
- 14.5-inch centre touchscreen
- 9-inch driver display and head-up display
- Google built-in, including Google Maps and Google Assistant
- 5G connectivity, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon® Cockpit Platform
A 360-degree camera system with 3D surround view assists with parking and low-speed manoeuvring.
Performance and Safety
Despite its comfort-focused character, the ES90 delivers balanced performance, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds.
Safety remains central to Volvo’s identity. The ES90 meets the Volvo Cars Safety Standard, exceeding regulatory requirements and drawing on over 55 years of real-world safety research.
Standard safety features include:
- Five radars, seven cameras and twelve ultrasonic sensors
- Driver understanding system to monitor attention and alertness
- Advanced collision avoidance and hazard detection
- Door-opening alert to protect cyclists and pedestrians when parked

Sustainability Credentials
Beyond electrification, Volvo has integrated recycled and renewable materials throughout the ES90:
- 29% recycled aluminium
- 18% recycled steel
- 16% recycled polymers and bio-based materials
- FSC-certified interior wood trim
These measures contribute to reduced CO₂ emissions during production.

CarTok Editor’s Note:
In a period where automakers are quietly recalibrating their EV ambitions, the ES90 feels less like a promise and more like a proof point — judged by what it delivers, not what it declares.
