GWM Malaysia has unveiled two new electrified models at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2026, introducing the ORA 5 HEV and HAVAL H7 Hi4 PHEV as part of its expanding multi-brand mobility strategy.
The two models represent the next stage of GWM’s growth in Malaysia, with ORA broadening beyond its EV-only positioning while HAVAL expands further into electrified lifestyle and adventure-focused SUVs.
According to GWM Malaysia, the new models reflect evolving consumer preferences, with buyers increasingly choosing vehicles based on lifestyle, usage requirements and personal priorities rather than a single powertrain solution.

ORA Expands Beyond EVs With New Hybrid Crossover
The ORA 5 HEV marks a significant milestone for the ORA brand in Malaysia, which has so far been associated primarily with the ORA Good Cat EV, and the 07.
Positioned as a compact urban crossover, the ORA 5 combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with GWM’s new Hi2 Intelligent Hybrid Technology and a two-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).
GWM says the Hi2 system is designed to deliver two key benefits simultaneously — low fuel consumption and strong performance — through intelligent coordination of the engine, transmission and battery system.

The hybrid powertrain produces 223PS and 476Nm of torque, enabling the ORA 5 to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 7.7 seconds. Fuel consumption is rated at 4.4L/100km, while total driving range is claimed to exceed 1,100km on a full tank.
The ORA 5 measures 4,471mm long, 1,833mm wide and 1,641mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,720mm. A 1.09kWh battery supports the hybrid system.
Designed around connected urban lifestyles, the crossover adopts styling elements such as waterdrop-inspired headlights, a hidden-design rear light arrangement and aerodynamic petal-style wheels.
GWM also highlighted the model’s international achievements. The ORA 5 received the Design of the Year award at the 2025 London Design Awards, becoming the first production vehicle to receive the accolade. The model also earned a Guinness World Records title after recording fuel consumption of 3.74L/100km during a 3,004km real-world driving challenge across China.
According to the company, the ORA 5 forms part of ORA’s evolution under the ONE GWM strategy, broadening the brand’s mobility portfolio while maintaining its design-led and technology-focused identity.

HAVAL H7 Brings Electrified Off-Road Capability
Alongside the ORA 5, GWM also previewed the HAVAL H7 Hi4 PHEV, a plug-in hybrid SUV positioned as a new-energy urban off-road vehicle.
The H7 is powered by GWM’s second-generation Hi4 Intelligent Hybrid AWD system, combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with front and rear electric motors.

Total system output stands at 370PS and 750Nm of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 6.2 seconds. The plug-in hybrid system offers a claimed electric-only driving range of up to 150km based on the CLTC cycle, while total driving range exceeds 1,000km.
Dimensionally, the H7 measures 4,800mm in length, 1,950mm in width and 1,843mm in height, riding on a 2,738mm wheelbase.
This SUV adopts a boxy design with a prominent square grille, upright proportions and distinctive lighting elements that emphasise its rugged character.
Beyond styling, the H7 has been engineered with genuine off-road capability. Key figures include a 25-degree approach angle, 32-degree departure angle, 20.1-degree breakover angle and a maximum wading depth of 580mm. It is also equipped with an electronically controlled rear differential lock.
GWM says its Hi4 system is designed to deliver all-wheel-drive capability while maintaining fuel efficiency through intelligent front and rear axle power distribution, allowing the vehicle to adapt to changing driving conditions.

Expanding The GWM Ecosystem
The addition of the ORA 5 HEV and HAVAL H7 Hi4 PHEV further expands GWM’s growing Malaysian portfolio, which already includes the ORA Good Cat EV, HAVAL H6 HEV, WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV, TANK 300 HEV and TANK 500 HEV.
While pricing and launch dates have yet to be announced, both models provide a clear indication of GWM’s direction in Malaysia, offering buyers a wider range of electrified options across urban, family and adventure-oriented segments.
CarTok Editor’s Note
ORA was first introduced to Malaysia as a fully electric brand, but GWM is pivoting to make the brand attractive to consumers who want electrified efficiency without fully committing to charging infrastructure. The HAVAL H7, meanwhile, shows that electrification and rugged SUV styling are no longer mutually exclusive concepts.
