Southeast Asia’s First TOMICA FACTORY Opens in Kuala Lumpur — Build Your Own Diecast Car

For many Malaysians, TOMICA is more than just a toy — it’s a childhood icon that often sparks a lifelong passion for cars. Now, fans have a new reason to visit Suria KLCC with the opening of Southeast Asia’s first permanent TOMICA FACTORY.

Located inside the TOMICA BRAND STORE at Toys“R”Us Suria KLCC, the new attraction allows visitors to customise and assemble their very own TOMICA diecast miniature cars, bringing an interactive experience previously only available in Japan.

The opening marks another milestone for the Japanese diecast brand after the launch of Southeast Asia’s first TOMICA BRAND STORE at the same location in December 2025.

Build Your Own TOMICA

Unlike a conventional toy store, the TOMICA FACTORY offers a hands-on experience where visitors become part of the production process.

Customers can choose individual components including the body, chassis, windshield and seats before watching their personalised TOMICA car being assembled through a specially designed factory experience.

At the heart of the attraction is the Assembly Machine, supported by a staff-operated Work Desk where visitors are guided through the customisation process. Once completed, each miniature car can be tested immediately at the dedicated Test-Run Stage.

The factory-themed setup is further enhanced with decorative 3D displays, specially designed walls and installations that recreate the atmosphere of a miniature automotive production line.

At the official launch, three young guests — Tristan Kai Ong, 6, Tengku Melur Alynna Ameera Binti Tengku Mohd Hafiz Izzat, 6, and Sakthyadave Gunaseelan, 5 — were among the first to experience the TOMICA FACTORY by selecting their preferred components before having their customised cars assembled by TOMICA staff.

First Permanent TOMICA FACTORY Outside Japan

“We are incredibly excited to introduce the first permanent TOMICA FACTORY outside Japan here in Malaysia,” said Shunsuke Takeuchi, Senior Executive Officer and Head of Brands Business, TOMY Company Ltd.

“Malaysia has one of the most passionate TOMICA fan communities in the region and we wanted to bring this unique interactive experience closer to fans who have supported the brand. The TOMICA FACTORY allows children and collectors to experience creativity, craftsmanship and play in a truly memorable way.”

Litt Tak Executive Director Tan Ee Chian said Malaysia’s selection reflects the country’s strong collector community.

“We are honoured that Malaysia was selected as the first international location for a permanent TOMICA FACTORY. This marks a ‘double first’ for Malaysia. The TOMICA BRAND STORE Kuala Lumpur is the 1st in Southeast Asia and now we are also the 1st location with a TOMICA FACTORY outside Japan.

“This reflects the strength of the Malaysian collector community and the growing demand for experiential retail concepts. We believe the TOMICA FACTORY will become a must-visit attraction for TOMICA fans across Southeast Asia,” he added.

The launch also celebrates the 41-year partnership between TOMICA and Litt Tak, the brand’s official distributor in Malaysia, which has played a key role in growing TOMICA’s presence among local collectors and hobbyists.

Leo Tsoi, Chief Executive Officer, Toys“R”Us (Asia) Limited, added:

“We are delighted to join hands with TOMICA and Litt Tak in bringing this world-first international concept to our flagship store. Today’s consumers are looking for more than just shopping and seek meaningful experiences. The TOMICA FACTORY perfectly brings our Live Toyful commitment to life by supporting immersive and engaging retail experiences for families and fans of all ages.”

Exclusive Collectibles Available

To coincide with the opening, the TOMICA BRAND STORE is also offering exclusive merchandise, limited-edition collectibles and special promotions.

Visitors can also purchase a highly anticipated TOMICA BRAND STORE original product together with an official TOMICA SHOP original, both of which officially debuted in Southeast Asia on 27 June and are available exclusively at the Kuala Lumpur store.

A Destination for Collectors

First introduced in 1970, TOMICA has become one of Japan’s most recognised diecast miniature car brands, known for its detailed craftsmanship and wide selection of collectible vehicles.

Beyond the new factory, the TOMICA BRAND STORE itself offers plenty for fans to explore. Its exterior resembles an oversized TOMICA box, while the interior features attractions including the Wheel Table display, the TOMICA WALL showcasing more than 2,000 miniature cars, the TOMICA KIDULTS AREA, a Recommended Corner for new releases and a TOMICA HISTORY AREA highlighting the brand’s heritage.

The TOMICA FACTORY is open daily from 10:00am to 10:00pm inside Toys“R”Us Suria KLCC, Second Level, Lot LC203, Ramlee Mall.

CarTok Editor’s Note

Every car enthusiast has an origin story. For many, it begins not with a driving licence, but with a small diecast car sitting on a bedroom shelf. As collections grow, so often does a passion for the automotive world. The TOMICA FACTORY taps into that journey by turning a miniature toy into an experience — one that could spark the next generation of collectors, enthusiasts and perhaps even future automotive engineers.
