PROTON e.MAS 5 Expands Global Footprint With Nepal Launch, Starting From Around RM93,000

PROTON is continuing its quest to strengthen its export sales with the launch of the Proton e.MAS 5 in Nepal. This makes the Himalayan nation the second overseas market to get the compact electric SUV after Singapore.
The launch marks another milestone for Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd (PICSB), reinforcing the company’s strategy of expanding the Proton e.MAS brand beyond Malaysia while positioning exports as a key pillar of its long-term growth.
Distributed by Jagdamba Motors, PROTON’s authorised partner in Nepal, the Proton e.MAS 5 was unveiled at an official ceremony in Kathmandu attended by representatives from the Embassy of Malaysia in Nepal, government officials, business partners, members of the media and invited guests.
It is also the second Proton EV to be introduced in Nepal following the Proton e.MAS 7 in 2025.

Exports Remain A Strategic Priority
PROTON stated that exports will continue to play an increasingly important role as it seeks to diversify revenue streams while raising the profile of Malaysian-made vehicles internationally.
“The launch of the Proton e.MAS 5 in Nepal is another important milestone in our export journey and demonstrates the growing international confidence in the Proton e.MAS brand,” said Edmund Lim Meng Thong, Chief Executive Officer of Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd.
He added that following the successful introduction of the model in Malaysia and Singapore, Nepal represents another important step towards building sustainable export growth through products offering advanced technology, quality, safety and value.
Lim also said every new export market strengthens PROTON’s international presence while showcasing Malaysia’s capability to produce globally competitive vehicles.
The e.MAS 5 received approximately 200 bookings on its first day of launch in Nepal, highlighting encouraging customer interest and confidence in the brand.

Built On A Proven Global EV Platform
PROTON noted that the e.MAS 5 is based on a Geely-developed EV platform that has already been adopted by more than 800,000 customers globally, providing confidence in its technology, quality and long-term product support.
In Nepal, the compact electric SUV is offered in Prime and Premium variants, targeting urban buyers looking for practical daily mobility, modern connectivity features and competitive driving range.
To celebrate the launch, Jagdamba Motors is offering introductory pricing of:
- Prime: Rs. 35 lakh (approximately RM93,800)
- Premium: Rs. 40 lakh (approximately RM107,300)
CarTok Editor’s Note
PROTON’s export strategy is starting to show some momentum, particularly for its electric vehicle business. After establishing a strong domestic presence, expanding into neighbouring and developing EV markets such as Singapore and Nepal allows the company to build international brand recognition without immediately competing in more mature markets.
Nepal is an interesting choice because EV adoption has accelerated due to favourable government policies and abundant hydroelectric power, creating a receptive market for affordable electric SUVs. Growing export volumes can improve production economies of scale, strengthen PROTONS’s international presence and provide an additional source of revenue to support future product development.
