All-New Proton Saga Launched in Malaysia, from RM37,990

PROTON has launched the all-new Saga in Malaysia, introducing the most substantial model overhaul to the nameplate in nearly four decades. Priced from RM37,990 (after a RM1,000 launch rebate), the sedan enters the market with updated design, enhanced performance, new technology features, and expanded safety equipment. Deliveries to early customers begin immediately.

The new model is built on PROTON’s Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA), a fully owned and developed platform designed to meet global compliance standards. The architecture is redeveloped and updated from the previous Saga’s platform and focuses on improved structural rigidity, better refinement, and future scalability, forming the basis for more advanced technologies in upcoming vehicles.

Powertrain and Driving Performance

Under the hood, the new Saga is powered by Proton’s latest i-GT 1.5-litre engine, paired with a CVT (Premium variant) or a 4-speed automatic (Executive & Standard). The combination delivers smooth acceleration and optimised fuel efficiency, rated at 4.9L/100km on the Malaysia Driving Cycle (5.1l/100km for Executive & Standard). Also, a new Electric Power Steering (EPS) system is standard across the range, replacing the hydraulic system and aimed at improving low-speed manoeuvrability and overall driving precision.

PROTON’s signature ride and handling tuning continues to play a key role, with the new chassis and steering setup designed to offer a stable, comfortable experience on Malaysian roads.

Safety Upgrades

Safety sees one of the most notable step-ups in this generation. All variants of the All-New Saga now offer up to six airbags, together with a Proton Reinforced Safety Structure (RESS) constructed with high-strength materials. The Saga Premium includes nine Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) functions, based on a 150m monocular camera system, providing an added layer of active protection.

Next-Generation Connectivity and Features

Interior technology has also been modernised, with the dashboard and centre console greatly redesigned. A new 16-inch Integrated Dual Screen serves as the centrepiece, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additional convenience features include auto headlamps, Follow-Me-Home lighting, and headlamp levelling.

Design and Variants

Exterior styling adopts a more modern and expressive direction, headlined by a Sulaman Songket-inspired front grille—a visual reference to Malaysian craftsmanship. The sedan also incorporates Full LED projector headlamps, a Full LED tail light bar, and a refreshed interior layout.

The All-New Saga range includes Standard, Executive, and Premium variants, with five available colours: Marine Blue, Space Grey, Ruby Red, Armour Silver and Snow White.

Official on-the-road prices with launch rebate are as follows:

CarTok Editor’s Note:

Saga loyalists won’t find major surprises here — just a far more modern update to a national staple, and a new engine that will see duty in future models.
