Harley-Davidson Motorcycles Enter PDRM Evaluation For Escort Duties
Three Harley-Davidson motorcycles have been handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for a Proof of Concept (POC) evaluation aimed at assessing their suitability for traffic policing, escort and official duties.
The motorcycles were provided to PDRM’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) by Route 77 Harley-Davidson of Kuala Lumpur at a handover ceremony held at the dealership.
The three motorcycles comprise the Harley-Davidson Low Rider ST, Street Glide and Pan America, representing different platforms within the Harley-Davidson range.
JSPT will evaluate the motorcycles based on their performance, handling, manoeuvrability and practicality, with the assessment focused on the department’s operational requirements.
The POC will also give JSPT personnel an opportunity to gain practical experience with the three motorcycle platforms and assess how each performs in an operational environment.
Le Tour de Langkawi Provides Real-World Test
The timing of the evaluation coincides with Le Tour de Langkawi (LTDL) 2026, providing an opportunity for JSPT to assess the motorcycles during a major international sporting event.
The event offers a real-world operating environment involving sustained riding, varying road conditions and the requirements associated with motorcycle escort duties.
However, the use of the Harley-Davidson motorcycles during LTDL 2026 is part of the POC evaluation and does not represent permanent deployment or adoption by PDRM.
JSPT said the three motorcycles have different characteristics and capabilities, allowing the department to make an objective assessment against its operational needs.
“This Proof of Concept provides JSPT with an opportunity to evaluate three different motorcycle platforms in a practical environment,” said the Director of JSPT.
“Each model has different characteristics and capabilities, and our focus is to objectively assess their performance, handling, practicality and suitability against JSPT’s operational requirements.”
The findings from the evaluation will subsequently be used by JSPT to assess the motorcycles against its operational requirements.
No Procurement Commitment Yet
The POC does not constitute an endorsement of Harley-Davidson motorcycles by PDRM, nor does it represent a procurement commitment or indicate that the motorcycles will be acquired in the future.
Any subsequent consideration by PDRM would remain subject to the police force’s established evaluation, approval and applicable procurement procedures.
The programme therefore provides Harley-Davidson and Route 77 with an opportunity to place three different motorcycle platforms in a genuine operational assessment, while allowing JSPT to gather practical information before making any further decisions.

The key point is that PDRM is evaluating, not buying. Using LTDL as part of the POC should provide JSPT with useful operational experience, but any move towards permanent deployment would still depend on the evaluation findings and PDRM’s procurement process.
