Chery Malaysia Crosses 30,000 Sales Mark in Under Three Years

It’s been a challenging few years, but they did it. Chery Malaysia has shared that it had surpassed 30,000 cumulative vehicle sales in less than three years, underlining its rapid rise as one of the fastest-growing automotive brands in the Malaysian market.

By the end of 2025, Chery Malaysia recorded 30,073 vehicles sold, driven by growing customer acceptance, an expanding product portfolio, and early momentum following its market entry.

The brand’s growth trajectory was evident from the start. In its first six months of operations in 2023, Chery delivered 4,501 units between June and December. This momentum continued through subsequent years, culminating in a strong 2025 performance with 12,930 vehicles delivered to Malaysian customers.

Expanding Product Line-Up, from ICE to Electrification

Chery’s local product strategy mirrors its global roadmap, beginning with internal combustion engine (ICE) models such as the OMODA 5 and TIGGO 8 PRO, before moving rapidly into electrified mobility.

The brand entered the electric vehicle space in March 2024 with the launch of the all-electric OMODA E5, followed by continued expansion of the TIGGO range, including the TIGGO 7 PRO, TIGGO CROSS TURBO, and TIGGO CROSS Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV).

Chery later ventured into plug-in hybrid technology with the introduction of the TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV, further broadening its electrified offerings for the Malaysian market.

Central to Chery’s early success, and not without drama, was the OMODA 5. Launched in 2023, it quickly became the brand’s best-performing model and played a key role in establishing Chery’s market presence.

Building on this foundation, the TIGGO series was introduced to address the needs of a wider customer base, ranging from young families to buyers seeking larger, more versatile SUVs. Originally offered with ICE powertrains, the range rapidly expanded within the same year to include HEV and PHEV variants powered by Chery’s Super Hybrid (CSH) technology.

Today, the TIGGO line-up comprises six models and remains a major contributor to Chery Malaysia’s 2025 sales, aligning with growing local demand for new energy vehicles.

Community Engagement Beyond Sales

Beyond product growth, Chery Malaysia also extended its presence actively through community-focused initiatives.

Following the fire incident in Putra Heights, Selangor, Chery proactively stepped in to support affected families by loaning vehicles to 50 homeowners. The assistance, delivered within the same week of the incident, enabled residents to manage daily mobility needs, relocate temporarily, and move personal belongings during a critical period.

Chery Malaysia also supported national development through its contribution to the National Sports Trust Fund (KWASN) in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The initiative supports national and international sporting events, athlete participation, and youth development programmes.

The brand’s involvement in events such as the Asian Youth Para Games and the Paris Olympic Games reflects its ongoing commitment to inclusivity and athlete empowerment.

In addition, Chery Malaysia partnered with the Belia Mahir Project to help bridge the gap between education and employment, offering graduates opportunities to join Chery and contribute to Malaysia’s automotive sector.

Malaysia as a Regional Manufacturing Hub

Looking ahead, Chery Malaysia’s long-term strategy will be anchored by the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park in Lembah Beringin, Selangor.

The RM2.2 billion facility, spanning over 200 acres, is set to enhance localisation, expand production capacity, and create broader economic opportunities. The project’s first phase is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2026.

Strong Global Performance Supports Local Growth

At group level, Chery Group closed 2025 with 2.806 million vehicles sold globally, marking a 7.8% year-on-year increase. The company retained its position as China’s top automotive exporter, with 1.344 million units shipped overseas.

The group also recorded progress across total sales, exports, new energy vehicles, and quality recognition, supported by five strategic pillars: new fuel vehicles, new energy vehicles, global expansion, strategic collaborations, and accelerated innovation in electrification, intelligent systems, and next-generation robotics.

Chery’s rising global profile was further reflected in its ranking at 233rd on the Fortune Global 500 and its successful Hong Kong listing (Chery Automobile).

As the group enters 2026, its focus remains on steady, sustainable growth while continuing to deliver value and innovation across global markets.
