2026 Proton X70 Updated With Ownership-Focused Improvements, Priced From RM99,800 After Rebate

PROTON has introduced the updated 2026 Proton X70, refining its long-running C-segment SUV with a focus on what matters most to owners: performance, comfort and convenience, running costs, and aftersales support.
Rather than a major redesign — the last facelift arrived in late 2024 — this update centres on improving the overall ownership experience, keeping the X70 competitive as a practical family SUV in Malaysia.
The X70 has been a key model for PROTON since its 2018 debut. Built on the Geely Boyue platform, which has surpassed two million units sold globally, the latest revision continues PROTON’s approach of incremental improvements based on owner feedback.

Familiar Powertrain, Refined Driving Experience
Power comes from PROTON’s newer 1.5-litre i-GT turbocharged four-cylinder engine (replacing the earlier three-cylinder turbo), paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Output stands at 181 PS and 290 Nm, figures that remain competitive for the segment.
PROTON says refinement and efficiency have been improved, supported by chassis and suspension tuning aimed at delivering a composed ride in both urban and highway conditions. As before, the X70 leans more toward comfort and stability than outright sportiness.
Comfort & Convenience: Quieter, More User-Friendly
Cabin comfort remains a key selling point. According to PROTON, improvements to ride quality and NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) contribute to a quieter and more relaxed driving experience for daily use and long-distance travel.
Inside, the X70 continues with a 12.3-inch infotainment display that now supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with the “Hi PROTON” voice command system for hands-free control of selected functions.

Cost: Efficiency and Lower Maintenance Focus
Fuel consumption is rated at 6.9L/100km, a reasonable figure for a turbocharged C-segment SUV of this size and output.
The use of a timing chain instead of a timing belt is highlighted as a long-term durability advantage, helping to reduce scheduled maintenance costs over the ownership period.
Care: ADAS and Expanded After-Sales Support
Safety remains a strong point, with the X70 equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) comprising 13 features. These include Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), supporting safer and less tiring long-distance driving.
Ownership support is backed by PROTON’s network of 172 authorised 3S and 4S outlets nationwide, along with parts availability aimed at reducing downtime.
“The 2026 PROTON X70 reflects PROTON’s commitment to continuous refinement and delivering what our customers truly value,” said Dato’ Ir Rashid, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON. “Rather than chasing trends, we have focused on strengthening performance, comfort, cost and care — ensuring the X70 remains a dependable SUV that families can trust and own with confidence over the entire ownership period.”

CarTok Editor’s Note:
No flashy redesign, no dramatic power hike — just a steady tightening of the things owners could actually live with every day. In family SUV terms, that may be what counts.
