Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia To Launch Triton Championship Edition Inspired by AXCR Victory
Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) will introduce the Triton Championship Edition, a limited-run variant inspired by the brand’s winning performance at the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) 2025.
The special edition will be available in two variants — Triton Athlete Championship Edition and Triton AT Premium Championship Edition — when it goes on sale on 11 March 2026.
Developed to commemorate Mitsubishi Motors’ victory at AXCR 2025, the Triton Championship Edition highlights the pickup’s rally-bred durability, capability and engineering, translating motorsports inspiration into a road-going package.
Both variants are offered as official packages by Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia, combining additional features, distinctive styling and motorsports-inspired elements not available on standard Triton models.
Production will be limited, giving buyers the opportunity to own a more exclusive version of Mitsubishi’s popular pickup truck.
Triton Athlete Championship Edition
Price: RM169,980 (on-the-road without insurance)
Limited to 150 units
Colour: Jet Black Mica
The Triton Athlete Championship Edition emphasises a premium and commanding presence while incorporating practical upgrades aimed at everyday usability.
Finished exclusively in Jet Black Mica, the limited 150 units feature exterior enhancements including distinctive body decals and all-terrain tyres, which not only enhance the pickup’s muscular stance but also improve grip across a wider range of driving conditions.
Inside, the cabin receives several upgrades including:
- 9-inch infotainment system for improved connectivity
- All-Round Monitor for enhanced visibility when manoeuvring
- Championship-inspired headrest covers reflecting Mitsubishi’s rally heritage
The combination of visual enhancements and functional upgrades aims to deliver both lifestyle appeal and practical benefits for daily driving.
Triton AT Premium Championship Edition

Limited to 120 units
Colour: White Diamond
The Triton AT Premium Championship Edition is positioned as a sportier lifestyle-oriented variant, designed for drivers seeking a more distinctive visual presence.
Available exclusively in White Diamond, it features several exterior enhancements including:
- 18-inch black sports rims
- Styling bar
- Front lower bumper garnish
- Distinctive body decals
- Championship-inspired headrest covers
With only 120 units available, the AT Premium Championship Edition adds motorsports-inspired design elements to the Triton’s established reputation for durability, comfort and everyday usability.
Hyperpower Diesel Engine and Updated Chassis
Under the bonnet, the Triton range is powered by Mitsubishi’s Hyperpower 4N16 diesel engine, offered in different output levels depending on the variant.
The Triton Athlete receives the higher-output 2.4-litre two-stage turbocharged diesel, producing:
- 204 PS (150 kW)
- 470 Nm of torque
The Triton AT Premium uses a 2.4-litre 4N16 turbo diesel generating:
- 184 PS
- 430 Nm of torque
The engine is paired with a newly developed frame chassis designed to improve strength, refinement and overall driving dynamics.
Advanced 4WD Systems and Drive Modes
The Triton Athlete continues to feature Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system, allowing drivers to switch between four drive modes:
- 2H – rear-wheel drive
- 4H – full-time four-wheel drive
- 4HLc – locked centre differential
- 4LLc – locked centre differential with low-range gearing
The system works with seven drive modes, including Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock, enabling drivers to tailor the vehicle’s traction performance for different terrain conditions.
Meanwhile, the Triton AT Premium is equipped with the Easy Select 4WD system, offering 2H, 4H and 4L modes.
The Triton Athlete also introduces Active Yaw Control (AYC), which improves cornering performance by applying light braking to the inside front wheel to enhance traction and stability, particularly on slippery surfaces.
Comprehensive Safety Suite
The Triton Athlete is equipped with Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing (MMSS), which includes:
- Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM)
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Blind Spot Warning with Lane Change Assist
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
All models also feature Active Stability & Traction Control (ASTC), along with Hill Descent Control (HDC) and Hill Start Assist (HSA) for improved confidence when driving on challenging terrain.
Celebrating an AXCR Victory
The Triton Championship Edition commemorates Team Mitsubishi Ralliart’s victory at the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) 2025, held in Thailand.
The rally covered a total distance of 2,316.32 km, including 1,002.95 km of Special Stages.
Driver Chayapon Yotha secured first place overall, completing the rally with a time of 16 hours, 15 minutes and 12 seconds. Teammate Katsuhiko Taguchi finished fifth, while Kazuto Koide placed 22nd overall.
Team Mitsubishi Ralliart also won the Team Award, marking its second win in the category and the first in two years.

Pickups already carry a reputation for toughness, but having a rally win in the family certainly helps the story. The Championship Edition doesn’t turn the Triton into a race truck — but it does give owners a nice reminder that its roots have actually been tested in the dirt.
