GWM Brings Full Powertrain Line-Up, TANK 300 HEV Preview To Penang Autoshow 2026

GWM Malaysia is at the Penang Autoshow 2026 (1 – 3 May) showcasing its full “All Powertrain, All Scenario” vehicle line-up, alongside a northern region preview of the TANK 300 HEV.
Held at the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC), the event also marks the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii)’s first autoshow outside the Klang Valley, reflecting a broader push to expand industry engagement and consumer access nationwide.
GWM’s display in Penang centres on real-world Malaysian usage, with a range that spans internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid electric (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV). The line-up is positioned to address different driving needs, from daily commuting and family transport to longer-distance and lifestyle-oriented use.

Among the key models on display are the HAVAL H6 HEV, positioned as a core hybrid SUV for everyday efficiency, and the WEY G9, a premium hybrid MPV focused on comfort and space. The ORA Good Cat and Good Cat GT represent the brand’s urban EV offerings, while the TANK 300 HEV makes its first appearance in Malaysia’s northern region, offering an early look at GWM’s expanding hybrid off-road SUV range.
“The Penang Autoshow 2026 is more than just a regional event, it reflects how Malaysia’s automotive landscape is expanding beyond Klang Valley into a truly national platform,” said En. Roslan Abdullah, Chief Operating Officer of GWM Malaysia.

“As Penang and the Northern region continue to grow as key mobility markets, we see strong demand for versatile solutions that support different lifestyles and driving needs. Through this platform, we aim to showcase how our all-powertrain, all-scenario line-up delivers relevance across everyday use cases, while offering a more immersive way to experience our vehicles beyond traditional showrooms and brochures,” he added.
In addition to static displays, GWM’s booth (A04) will feature interactive elements such as guided vehicle walkthroughs, test drive opportunities with booking rewards, and the “Pack & Go Challenge” to demonstrate cargo space and practicality. Family-friendly activities and merchandise giveaways will also be part of the showcase.
The Penang appearance builds on GWM’s global showcase at Auto China 2026 in Beijing, where the company introduced its “GWM ONE” philosophy and a modular platform designed to support multiple powertrains, including ICE, HEV, PHEV, BEV and fuel-cell systems. With over 95% parts commonality, the platform is aimed at improving development efficiency and enabling market-specific adaptations.

Hybrid technology remains a key focus, with the Hi4 system forming part of GWM’s broader electrification strategy. These developments are being translated into local offerings, aligning global engineering capabilities with Malaysian driving conditions and usage patterns.
“Seeing GWM ONE come to life at a global level gives us strong confidence in how we bring these technologies into Malaysia. What we are showcasing in Penang is not just a product line-up, but a reflection of a much larger global capability. This allows us to deliver relevant, high-quality solutions tailored to Malaysian users while backed by world-class engineering and scale,” said Mr. Cui Anqi, Managing Director of GWM Malaysia.

CarTok Editor’s Note
The headline act might be the TANK 300 HEV, but it looks clear that GWM is betting that Malaysians won’t commit to one powertrain just yet. Instead, it’s offering everything at once and letting the market decide.
