GWM Malaysia Rolls Out First Locally Assembled WEY G9 in Melaka, Setting the Stage for ASEAN Expansion

GWM Malaysia has hit a major milestone with the first locally assembled WEY G9 rolling off the EP Manufacturing Bhd (EPMB) line in Melaka. The ceremonial rollout, witnessed by Melaka Chief Minister Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Yusoh, marks the beginning of a new chapter not just for the brand, but also for Malaysia’s role in the regional New Energy Vehicle (NEV) landscape.
This makes the WEY G9 the first premium New Energy MPV from China to be assembled in Malaysia, reinforcing GWM’s strategy to establish the country as a key manufacturing and export hub for ASEAN. The model is scheduled for an official Malaysian launch in early 2026.

Local Assembly With Regional Intentions
The start of CKD operations at EPMB highlights GWM’s confidence in Malaysia’s capability to support high-value automotive manufacturing and advanced NEV technologies. Beyond vehicle assembly, the partnership aims to accelerate talent development, strengthen the local vendor ecosystem and lay the groundwork for future exports to neighbouring markets.

En. Roslan Abdullah, Chief Operating Officer of GWM Malaysia, called the rollout a landmark moment.
“Today is a historic achievement for GWM Malaysia. The roll out of the GWM WEY G9 from Melaka represents the meeting point of global engineering excellence and local craftsmanship. It reinforces our commitment to Malaysia, from creating high value jobs to developing local suppliers and ensuring Malaysian customers enjoy premium New Energy vehicles assembled with pride here in Melaka. This milestone lays the foundation for a stronger and more competitive GWM Malaysia in the years ahead.”
GWM Malaysia Managing Director Mr. Cui Anqi echoed this sentiment and placed the milestone within a much broader regional strategy.
“Seeing the first GWM WEY G9 roll out from the Malaysian assembly line is a proud moment for GWM. It reflects our global ambition to deepen our New Energy presence in ASEAN and our confidence in Malaysia as a strategic manufacturing base. The partnership with EPMB is an important milestone in our regional expansion journey. This is more than local assembly, it is the beginning of a broader roadmap that will support future export opportunities. We are committed to growing our regional future from Malaysia.”
