OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia has officially launched the JAECOO J5, introducing a new premium-oriented contender into Malaysia’s competitive B-segment crossover market.
Positioned as an “Urban Explorer”, the J5 combines compact dimensions with premium comfort, advanced safety technology, and everyday practicality for Malaysian drivers.
Priced from RM108,000 (OTR without insurance), the J5 expands the brand’s growing lineup and is targeted at individuals and families seeking a refined urban crossover with modern technology.

Efficient Turbocharged Powertrain
Powering the JAECOO J5 is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 147 PS (145 hp) and 210 Nm of torque.
The engine features intake integrated intercooling and an integrated exhaust manifold (IEM) cylinder head, technologies designed to improve thermal efficiency and drivability. Power is delivered to the front wheels through a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), focusing on smooth and refined everyday driving.
Fuel consumption is rated at 6.4 L/100 km (Malaysia Driving Cycle), allowing the J5 to qualify for Malaysia’s Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) certification.
Compact Size With a Strong Structural Foundation
The JAECOO J5 measures 4,380 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, 1,650 mm in height, and sits on a 2,620 mm long wheelbase.
Despite its compact footprint, the model has been engineered with structural rigidity in mind, incorporating high-tensile steel in key areas and achieving a torsional rigidity rating of 23,500 Nm/deg.
Suspension duties are handled by a MacPherson strut front setup paired with a multi-link rear suspension, a configuration aimed at balancing ride comfort with handling stability.
The crossover rides on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels with 235/55 tyres, giving the vehicle a confident stance on the road.
Premium Cabin With Lifestyle-Focused Features
Inside, the JAECOO J5 places emphasis on comfort and technology.
The five-seat interior features premium leatherette upholstery with white seat piping, while ventilated front seats help maintain comfort in Malaysia’s warm climate.
A 480-litre boot expands to 1,284 litres with the rear seats folded, enhancing practicality for daily use or weekend trips.
The cabin also introduces several distinctive features including:

Adding a playful element, the J5 includes an in-car mixer with app control, effectively turning the vehicle into a mobile karaoke lounge.
Cabin refinement is further enhanced by double-glazed front windows, helping reduce exterior noise for a quieter driving experience.
The crossover also introduces TÜV-certified pet-friendly upholstery, designed with anti-bacterial and scratch-resistant properties to better accommodate owners travelling with pets.
Completing the interior ambience is a 1.45 m² panoramic moonroof, described as the largest in its class.

Safety is supported by a Level 2+ ADAS suite, comprising 19 advanced driver assistance systems.
