MAN TGM Scores Five Stars In Euro NCAP Heavy Truck Safety Test, Also Earns CitySafe Award

The MAN TGM has received a five-star rating in the latest Euro NCAP test for heavy commercial vehicles, putting the mid-tonnage distribution truck among the strongest performers in safety for its class.

The result covers vehicles up to 16 tonnes and reflects the MAN TGM’s performance across the three main Euro NCAP assessment areas: Safe Driving, Crash Avoidance and Post-Crash Safety. According to MAN, the truck delivered a balanced result across all three, with particular recognition for its driver assistance and active safety systems.

Strong Showing In Driver Assistance And Accident Prevention

Euro NCAP highlighted the MAN TGM’s modern assistance systems, including driver monitoring functions that can detect signs of fatigue, emergency braking assistance, turning assist systems, and lane and speed support functions designed for regional distribution work.

These features are becoming increasingly important in urban and regional logistics, where trucks often operate in mixed traffic and have to interact closely with pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.

CitySafe Award For Urban Distribution Use

Alongside the five-star result, the MAN TGM also received Euro NCAP’s CitySafe award. The award is given to vehicles that meet particularly high safety standards in city traffic, with factors such as visibility and collision-avoidance performance playing a major role.

MAN Truck & Bus said the recognition reflects its broader approach to safety across the full vehicle life cycle, from preventing accidents to helping protect occupants after an incident.

“Euro NCAP’s five-star rating confirms our consistent commitment to thinking about safety holistically – from safe driving and active accident prevention through to support after an accident. Especially in distribution and city traffic, where vehicles, drivers and other road users interact in close proximity, modern assistance and safety systems make a decisive contribution to reducing risks,” says Dr Frederik Zohm, Executive Board member for Research and Development at MAN Truck & Bus.

Euro NCAP Raises The Bar For Commercial Vehicles

Euro NCAP, or the European New Car Assessment Programme, has long been known for its vehicle safety ratings, and it now applies its testing framework to heavy-duty trucks as well. The commercial vehicle programme evaluates realistic road scenarios and measures performance in Safe Driving, Crash Avoidance and Post-Crash Safety.

For fleet operators, especially those running urban distribution and regional logistics, the latest result gives the MAN TGM a clear safety selling point at a time when driver assistance technology is becoming a bigger part of purchasing decisions.

CarTok Editor’s Note

Euro NCAP ratings for heavy trucks are becoming increasingly important because fleet operators are now evaluating more than payload, fuel economy and uptime. In urban distribution work especially, safety technology directly affects insurance costs, accident downtime, driver fatigue and even contract eligibility with large logistics customers.

The MAN TGM’s five-star result also reflects a wider shift happening across Europe: advanced driver assistance systems are rapidly moving from “premium option” status into expected baseline equipment for commercial fleets. For operators running regional and city delivery routes, avoiding one serious accident can easily justify the investment.
