Isuzu Launches GIGA Prime Mover Range With Four New Euro 5 Models

Isuzu Malaysia Sdn Bhd (IMSB) has launched its Euro 5 heavy-duty GIGA truck range in Malaysia with four new prime mover models, giving fleet operators a choice of manual and automated manual transmissions.

The new 2026 Isuzu GIGA prime mover range comprises the EK5 410T (MT), EK5 410T (AMT), EW5 410 (MT) and EW5 460 (AMT). The EK5 variants come in 4×2 configuration while the EW5 is available as 6×2 (MT) and 6×4 (AMT).

This comes as logistics operators face increasing operating costs, competitive pressures and tighter emissions requirements, with Isuzu positioning the new range around a combination of performance, fuel efficiency and cleaner emissions.

IMSB Chief Executive Officer Tomoyuki Yamaguchi said the logistics industry remains an important part of the economy but is facing a changing operating environment. “The launch of these new high-performance GIGA Euro 5 prime movers is our response to help customers overcome these challenges for their businesses.”

He added that Isuzu remains committed to creating new value in transportation through solutions designed to support businesses, communities and the environment. Officially, Malaysia will only implement Euro 5-compliant ruling on new truck sales in October 2027.

11-Litre GH11 Engine For Heavy-Duty Operations

All four models are powered by Isuzu’s 11-litre, six-cylinder Blue Power GH11 diesel engine, developed to deliver strong performance while meeting Euro 5 emissions requirements.

The engine is paired with a 405-litre fuel tank and is designed to generate torque across a broad engine-speed range.

Transmission choice depends on the model. The manual-transmission variants are equipped with a nine-speed or 12-speed gearbox, while the AMT versions use a 12-speed gearbox.

A key feature of the Euro 5 powertrain is its Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, which reduces nitrogen oxide emissions through exhaust after-treatment. This system uses AdBlue diesel exhaust fluid, which Isuzu says is available through its service centres nationwide.

For fleet operators, the SCR system is intended to combine emissions reduction with fuel efficiency and potentially lower long-term ownership costs through reduced maintenance requirements.

Active Safety Features Across The Range

The new GIGA prime movers also receive a range of safety equipment aimed at improving driver protection and vehicle control.

Standard safety equipment includes SRS airbags with seatbelt pretensioners, together with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD).

ABS and EBD work together to optimise braking force across the wheels according to factors including vehicle load, road conditions and speed.

The EK5 410T AMT and EW5 460 AMT additionally receive Electronic Vehicle Stability Control (EVSC).

The system monitors steering inputs and wheel speeds and can automatically reduce engine power and apply individual brakes to help stabilise the vehicle during critical driving situations or on slippery roads.

For a prime mover operating with a heavy trailer and cargo, this type of electronic stability intervention can be particularly relevant when dealing with sudden steering inputs or changing road conditions.

Driver-Focused Cabin Adds Comfort And Connectivity

Isuzu has also focused on the working environment inside the GIGA cabin, with an emphasis on space, comfort and ease of accessing vehicle information. Ease of access includes a folding lower step to avoid damage in rough terrain. There is also a convenient step integrated into the front bumper to ease maintenance work. To further ease maintenance, the cab has electric tilt function.

The instrument cluster provides real-time information intended to help drivers operate the truck safely and efficiently, with a straightforward layout designed to make information easier to read while driving.

The cabin is also equipped with a 2DIN AV navigation and multimedia system featuring a 7-inch touchscreen, equaliser, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with both wired and wireless connectivity.

Other functions include hands-free Bluetooth, USB connectivity and FM radio.

Cabin space has increased, with under-bunk storage provided. Cabin comfort is further supported by an air suspension system located beneath the cabin. Using compressed-air bags at the rear of the cabin, the system is designed to absorb chassis vibration and road impacts, helping to reduce driver fatigue while improving ride comfort and stability.

Four Models, Two Transmission Choices

The four-model line-up gives operators a combination of engine outputs and transmission configurations:

ModelTransmissionPower
EK5 410T9-speed MT410
EK5 410T12-speed AMT410
EW5 41012-speed MT410
EW5 46012-speed AMT460

The availability of both manual and AMT configurations also gives fleet operators greater flexibility depending on their operating requirements and driver preferences.

The GIGA also has Jost 5th wheel fitted at factory, as well as a redesigned wheel hub that is more durable and reduces risk of misalignment thus cutting downtime and labour cost.

Open For Bookings

The new Isuzu GIGA prime movers are now open for bookings through 46 authorised Isuzu dealer branches nationwide.

The expanded range gives Isuzu a broader Euro 5 offering in Malaysia’s heavy-duty prime mover market, combining its established GIGA platform with a choice of transmission configurations and the GH11 diesel engine.

For logistics operators, the key consideration will ultimately be how the different configurations perform in their specific duty cycles, particularly in areas such as fuel consumption, driver utilisation, maintenance and total operating cost.

CarTok Editor’s Note

A prime mover is a working asset, and what matters to fleet operators is how effectively it turns fuel, driver time and maintenance expenditure into kilometres and payload moved. This is where the income is.

The transmission choice also can have a huge effect on the driver’s working day.

A manual gearbox gives experienced drivers direct control, but operating a heavy truck through long hours of stop-start traffic, gradients and frequent gear changes can be physically demanding. The 12-speed AMT in the new GIGA models takes much of that workload away by automating clutch and gear selection while retaining the fundamentals of a manual transmission.

This makes the truck easier to operate, particularly for drivers spending long hours on the road. It also reduces the need for constant clutch and gear-shift input, potentially making driving less tiring and allowing the driver to concentrate more on traffic, road conditions and the vehicle around them.

For fleet operators, this is a relevant consideration. Driver comfort is not simply a nice-to-have when a truck may be operating for many hours a day. A transmission that is easier to manage can contribute to a more consistent driving experience across different routes and drivers. A less tired driver is a safer driver.

Not every operator or duty cycle requires the same approach, but giving fleets the option allows them to balance driver familiarity, operating conditions and productivity when specifying a prime mover.
