BYD Flash Charging For Malaysia, DENZA Z9GT Gets Fjord Green Colour

BYD Malaysia is working with Gentari to explore the deployment of BYD Flash Charging infrastructure in Malaysia, with selected DENZA showrooms expected to be among the first locations to offer the high-power charging technology.

This follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between BYD Malaysia and Gentari, a clean energy solutions company wholly owned by PETRONAS, at BYD’s global headquarters in Shenzhen, China.

Designed to significantly reduce charging times for compatible electric vehicles, BYD Flash Charging is capable of charging the recently launched DENZA Z9GT from 10% to 70% in five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes.

The technology is designed for vehicles equipped with BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery. The DENZA Z9GT is among the first models available in Malaysia to support it, featuring a 122.49kWh battery and a 1,000-volt high-voltage architecture.

BYD Malaysia said existing BYD models would also be compatible with the new charging infrastructure, although actual charging speeds would depend on each vehicle’s capabilities.

“BYD is committed to bringing the next generation of charging technology to Malaysia, and we are working towards making BYD Flash Charging available to our customers soon,” said Jacob Ma, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia.

“This marks an important step in strengthening Malaysia’s EV charging infrastructure and making electric mobility more convenient for our customers.”

BYD Flash Charging Rollout At Selected DENZA Showrooms

The initial rollout is planned for selected DENZA luxury showrooms, giving owners of compatible vehicles early access to BYD Flash Charging.

BYD Malaysia and Gentari will also explore suitable locations and supporting infrastructure, including PETRONAS stations and key intercity routes connecting major population centres.

As the network develops, both parties will consider introducing the technology at selected highway rest and service areas to support longer-distance travel.

The companies also intend to develop local capabilities through the training and upskilling of Malaysian technicians to support the growing EV ecosystem.

However, the proposed network is currently at the planning and exploration stage. BYD Malaysia will announce its deployment schedule in due course.

DENZA Z9GT Gets New Fjord Green Exterior Colour

Alongside the charging infrastructure announcement, DENZA Malaysia introduces Fjord Green as a new exterior colour for the Z9GT luxury grand tourer.

The new option joins the existing Rime Gold and Obsidian Black finishes and is now available to view at DENZA showrooms nationwide.

More than 100 units of the Z9GT have been delivered to Malaysian customers since its launch, with additional batches arriving to meet demand.

Priced at RM358,800, the Z9GT is built on BYD’s e3 Platform and produces 850kW (1,156PS), enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in a claimed 2.7 seconds. Its features include Compass Turn and Crab Walk, which are designed to enhance manoeuvrability.

The introduction of BYD Flash Charging is also intended to complement the Z9GT’s high-voltage electrical architecture, although access to the technology will depend on the availability of compatible charging facilities.

Interior upholstery choices vary according to the exterior colour selected.

  • Rime Gold: Perg Beige or an all-Black interior with suede seats and yellow stitching.
  • Obsidian Black: Red Velvet, Perg Beige or an all-Black interior with suede seats and yellow stitching.
  • Fjord Green: Perg Beige, Red Velvet or an all-Black interior with suede seats and yellow stitching.

The DENZA Z9GT is available at DENZA Balakong, DENZA Glenmarie, DENZA KLCC, DENZA KL North, DENZA Old Klang Road, DENZA Melaka, DENZA Penang and DENZA Skudai.

CarTok Editor’s Note

Charging in minutes rather than tens of minutes could remove one of the biggest practical obstacles to EV ownership, particularly for drivers who regularly travel between cities.

BYD’s technology is worth watching, as Malaysia needs a dependable network of high-power chargers in the right places, if the we are to achieve widespread EV adoption. That means sufficient grid capacity, sensible pricing and locations that are not out of the way. Vehicle compatibility matters too, as not every EV will benefit from the technology’s maximum charging speeds.

And until deployment plans and operating details are confirmed, five-minute charging should be viewed as the technology’s potential rather than a convenience Malaysian EV owners can already count on.
