Perodua Traz Launched in Malaysia: New Urban SUV Priced from RM76,100

Perodua has wrapped up 2025 with the launch of its latest Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), the all-new Perodua Traz, positioned as a compact, urban-focused five-seater designed for everyday usability, family practicality, and fuel efficiency.

The Perodua Traz expands the brand’s SUV portfolio, slotting in between the Ativa and Aruz as a more lifestyle-oriented urban option aimed squarely at the urban driver.

Designed for Malaysian Usage, Not Complexity

Billed under the tagline “Engineered Simply”, the Traz is described by Perodua as its most user-friendly vehicle to date. The development focus prioritises ease of ownership, intuitive features, and practical everyday needs rather than overcomplication—an approach consistent with Perodua’s mass-market strategy. This simplification could be the reason the Traz debuted with only two variants (X & H), marking a departure from Perodua’s typical SUV launch strategy of X, H and AV variants.

Pricing starts from RM76,100, going up to RM82,000 for the H variant (on-the-road without insurance), placing the Traz competitively within the entry-level SUV segment while undercutting several imported rivals.

Size, Platform & Practical Packaging

The Perodua Traz is a B-segment SUV built on the DNGA-B (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform which it shares with the Toyota Yaris Cross (supposedly due for launch), and adapted for Malaysian conditions and city usage. Its dimensions are:

  • Length: 4,310 mm
  • Width: 1,770 mm
  • Height: 1,655 mm
  • Wheelbase: 2,620 mm
  • Ground Clearance: 210 mm
  • Boot Capacity: 471 litres
  • Turning Radius: 5.2 m

These dimensions make it larger than the Ativa while still compact enough for urban driving. A long wheelbase also supports a roomy interior and generous cargo space.

Engine, Transmission & Driving Modes

Both Traz variants use the familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder 2NR-VE petrol engine:

  • Power: 105 hp (78 kW) @ 6,000 rpm
  • Torque: 138 Nm
  • Transmission: Dual Mode CVT (D-CVT), front-wheel drive
  • Drive Modes: Normal, Eco, Sport
  • Fuel Tank: 42 litres
  • Fuel Efficiency: 21.3 km/l (Malaysia Driving Cycle Mode)

This powertrain has been proven in Perodua models like the Myvi and Alza, and balances everyday usability with low running costs.

Exterior Features

Standard exterior elements include:

  • Full LED headlights with follow-me-home/leave-home function
  • LED daytime running lights (DRL)
  • LED rear combination lights
  • 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels (215/60 R17)
  • Auto-folding side mirrors
  • Roof rails
  • Rear spoiler

The H variant adds LED front fog lights, welcome lights on side mirrors, and power tailgate with kick sensor for easier cargo access.

Interior & Connectivity

Inside, the Traz prioritises comfort and connectivity:

  • 9-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
  • Analog instrument cluster with 4.2-inch TFT screen
  • Electronic Parking Brake (EPB)
  • Tilt & telescopic steering adjustment
  • Keyless entry (both front doors) and push start
  • Rear air-conditioning vents
  • 3× USB-C + 1× USB-A ports
  • Rear armrest with cup holders

The H variant also benefits from automatic air-conditioning, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, 6-speaker audio, and a 360-degree camera with Digital Video Recorder (DVR).

Safety Equipment

The Traz has a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating, and a suite of active and passive safety systems.

Standard safety equipment across both variants includes:

  • 6 airbags
  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
  • Pre-Collision Warning & Braking Assist (vehicles & pedestrians)
  • Lane Departure Warning & Prevention
  • Front Departure Alert
  • Pedal Mis-operation Control
  • Front & rear parking sensors with reverse camera

Those familiar with ADAS suites will notice that Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is not in the list. This may be something to note if you are a frequent user of ACC.

Colour Options & Accessories

Traz is offered in multiple colours, including Cranberry Red, Electric Blue with Black Roof (H only), Glittering Silver (which also has an option for Black Roof for the H), Ivory White, and Granite Grey.

Perodua also has available a range of optional Gear-Up accessories, from body kits to wireless charging pads and luggage trays, for buyers seeking visual or functional customisation.

Sales Expectations and Local Production

Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the model is expected to carve out its own space in the market.

“We believe that this model has its unique market niche and we expect sales to be around 1,900 units per month.”

The project involved a total investment of RM563.3 million, with production taking place at Perodua Manufacturing Sdn Bhd’s Sungai Choh plant in Rawang. Significantly, the Traz achieves 95% local content, reinforcing Perodua’s role as one of Malaysia’s most locally integrated automotive manufacturers.

Dato’ Sri Zainal added that Perodua expects the Traz to contribute positively to the company’s overall registration numbers from 2026 onwards, with deliveries in Peninsular Malaysia commencing immediately.

Bookings Open Nationwide

Customers can now visit Perodua showrooms nationwide to test drive and place bookings, with further product details available via Perodua’s official website.

CarTok Editor’s Note:
The Traz isn’t revolutionary and doesn’t reinvent the SUV segment. Perodua’s strategy seems to be about refining what most Malaysians actually use daily. Traz blends Perodua’s proven fuel-efficient powertrain with a larger, family-friendly package and a practical feature set. With a high proportion of locally sourced components, practical features, and competitive pricing, this could quietly become one of Perodua’s most important volume models from 2026.
