Wing Hin Motorsports Starts 2026 Season With Six Podiums, Two Wins At Buriram

Wing Hin Motorsports kicked off its 2026 racing campaign in impressive fashion, securing six podium finishes and two race victories during the opening round of the TSS The Super Series and Thailand Super Series at Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand.

The Malaysian team entered the season opener with five cars and 10 drivers across the GT4 and Super Touring categories, emerging from the weekend with strong championship momentum in both classes.

GT4 Title Defence Begins With Class Victory

Wing Hin Motorsports’ GT4 title defence got off to a promising start thanks to the #39 Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 driven by Malaysian pair Mitchell Cheah and Ryan Wong.

The duo claimed second overall and first in the Pro-Am Class during Saturday’s opening race before adding a fifth-place overall finish in Sunday’s second race.

Wong took the start in Race 1 and maintained a steady pace before handing over to Cheah midway through the one-hour contest. Cheah then produced a strong charge from seventh place to finish second overall while securing the Pro-Am class win.

“A good result to start the season. The team has been working hard last season and in preparation for this year and we’re looking forward to the next race,” said Cheah.

Race 2 proved more challenging despite Cheah starting from pole position. An early safety car intervention erased his slim advantage before an intense five-car battle for the lead dropped the GR Supra to fourth place. Following the mandatory driver change, Wong rejoined in fifth and maintained that position until the chequered flag.

Four More Podiums In Super Touring

The team enjoyed an even stronger weekend in the Thailand Super Series Super Touring category, collecting four podium finishes across two races.

Saturday’s Race 1 saw the #36 Toyota Vios driven by Amer Harris and Nabil Azlan finish second, while the #38 Toyota Yaris of Dannies Ng and Jwan Hii secured third place. The #9 Toyota Vios piloted by Nick Teo and Ian Wong narrowly missed the podium in fourth.

“We’re super happy with the results! We have to thank the team for preparing a super competitive car. This is our first rookie season in the series and the competition has been tough but the team has done an incredible job of bringing us up to pace,” said Hii.

Dramatic Race 2 Produces Another Victory

Sunday’s second Super Touring race delivered one of the most dramatic contests of the weekend.

Starting from pole position, Amer Harris led much of the race before handing over to Nabil Azlan at the halfway point. Nabil rejoined with a narrow advantage but slipped to second place with 10 minutes remaining.

He responded by retaking the lead from Thailand’s P. Pasarit in the closing stages. Contact between the two cars on the penultimate lap resulted in a puncture for Pasarit’s Honda CR-Z, promoting the #38 Toyota Yaris of Ng and Hii into second place and creating an all-Toyota top-three finish.

However, a post-race investigation altered the final results. Hii and Ng were promoted to victory, while a five-second penalty handed to Nabil dropped the #36 Toyota Vios crew to third place.

The team’s Thai pairing of Varunchit Wattanathanakun (Monai) and lady driver Mekkaradkeeta Kalantananda (Ni-Ne) finished eighth in their Toyota Yaris, while Teo and Wong concluded the weekend in ninth position.

“It’s a good 1-2 and a very good result for us. This is my first time racing in the Super Touring Class. Last year the team also had a shot at the overall championship but things didn’t really go as planned. It’s still too early to predict with only one round completed but it has certainly been a very good start,” said Amer.

“It was a very exciting race today! The team has been making extremely strong progress with making the car competitive and we believe we have a good shot in the coming rounds.”

Bangsaen Street Circuit Up Next

The second round of both the TSS The Super Series and Thailand Super Series championships will take place at the renowned Bangsaen Grand Prix street circuit in Chonburi, Thailand, from 1 to 5 July.

With six podium finishes and two victories already secured, Wing Hin Motorsports has positioned itself as an early championship contender in both GT4 and Super Touring competition.

Winning races is one thing. Winning races while fielding multiple cars across two highly competitive categories is another. The opening round suggests Wing Hin Motorsports has not only carried over last year’s momentum but may have strengthened its depth as well. Bangsaen will be a test as street circuits have a habit of rewarding consistency as much as outright speed.
